Depending on your size wheels up front you can have the best of both worlds by doing the C6 Z51 Brake Rotors and Brackets! (You'll need 18" wheels on the front)
Go to Gene Culley @ GMPartshouse and get them or look for his specials here on the forum.
They not only look great but work fantastic and they are economical and bigger than the standard C5/C6 base brakes. That is why they come with the larger or taller brackets.
You still use you same calipers - new ones are "NOT" needed!
Here is a pic of my Vette with them: I have 19x11 and 18x9.5 wheels
Thanks,Matt
That's a nice looking setup.
BTW, my wheels are 19x10 & 18x9.5 with Michelin A/S 245/40/18 & 285/35/19. Already have ceramic pads (can't stand brake dust).
I think you're talking about TPS (www.tpsmotorsports.com). I just talked to Mike over there yesterday and they do have good prices on their basic rotors ($239/set). Even cooler, they have powder-coated rebuilt calipers for $310 (basic black or red) or $400 (candy colors). I just ordered new wheels/tires too and decided I wanted to upgrade the look on the inside of the wheel so I ordered the candy blue calipers that actually match the LeMans Blue pretty darn close. I'm saving the rotor and pad upgrade for when I have to replace anyways (I hate wasting perfectly good consumables).
Good luck!
I'm kind of stuck on the look of red calipers, but I'd like to see some pics of yours, as I have considered the same setup.
Yeah, I hate wasting consumables too, but remember I'm vain!
Plus it sounds like I better put some bigger rotors on back to fill that big hole!
I have Baer Eradispeed Drilled/Slotted rotors on all 4. I have to say, they make the car look 100x better and more aggressive. I swear I got more questions about the rotors than the car itself when I took it to the annual Corvette Show this past summer.
We have a blue that would look real nice to your car but we can't do it for $310... we have to charge $400 because our Candied Calipers have a 3 stage powder coating process and costs us more to do... here are some pics of one we sent out last week
Also, on the C5s it takes even longer to prep them because there is ALOT of casting flash and the front calipers are REAL rough so we have to spend time smoothing them out or they won't look good
Mine are on order, so I can't show them to you on the car, but I've quoted the message he sent me above.
Hi MSG C5,
Your wheels are awesome! What kind are they?
Do they make 18" for the front and 19" for the rear? Are those stock center caps?
Thanks. I am running 19" back and 18" front. They are called Ace Slick Hyperblack. I purchased them as a complete wheel/tire set from Nate @ Corvette Garage - Forum vendor on the left ad ribbon. They call them "Z07" Wheels.

I received the center caps with the wheels.
As to caliper color, go with with your gut. Gray is a neutral color, so I wanted to add a little color. If it's good enough for GM, Porsche and Ferrari to mix and match, it's good enough for me! There is no right or wrong way, just your way!
I went with Blue & a little bit o' red...
(Brake Performance drilled and slotted/black zinc)
I know it doesn't matter to most people, but I prefer the slots to go "with" the wheel rotation...
I've always been against the "all show, no go" mentality. I've pretty much been a 4x4 guy most of my life and I never modded my 4x4's in such ways that were just for show. Then on vettes, adding things like fake brake cooler ducts, just doesn't make sense to me.
However, I now find myself looking at new rotors for looks. I just put new chrome wheels on and something just isn't right. I think it needs red calipers and slotted/drilled rotors. I don't do anything other than drive this car normally (hot rodding occassionally or putting a rice burner in their place). So, I don't need performance brakes (if you assume that slotted or drilled give more performance). I just want better "looking" brakes.
Right now I tend to like the "looks" of rotors with dual sets of holes and some slots. Don't know why.
I'm curious as to other opinions on this subject. What are the best "looking" rotors and why? Do you think I'm crazy?
While not a fan of lowering -this is the exception - drop her at least one inch and the look will be greatly improved.
I'm wondering if greyish silver with red letters would look good my car? Still a hint of red, which I like, but not overpowering. I saw a picture of a red vette in a catalog with that setup and it looked nice, just not sure how that would go with lemans blue.

Yeah, I don't know why my car looks like it has a lift kit on it! Could have something to do with the angle of the pic or the lighting, but there is definitely plenty of space. That setup is basically the same height as stock. For rear tires: OEM - 275/40/18 height is 26.7". The new tire is 285/35/19 which is 26.9". So actually the new setup is .2" taller.
As mentioned in a previous post, I'm having vibration issues since putting on new wheels and tires. So, Friday I'm having a Hunter Road Force balance done. If that solves my vibration, then next step will be to lower on stock bolts.

You may want to look into a bump steer kit if you lower it. I've been riding on mine lowered only an inch for a few months and I have had a few occasions to regret not doing the bump steer kit at the same time as I lowered it

I'm not real familiar with that. Could you tell me more or point me to where I would purchase such a thing? (I'll try to do a search in the mean time). Thx.

Bump steer re-aligns the geometry of your tie rods. I did a search after he replied to you and found quite a bit of info. Long story short I don't think I would do it unless you lowered it more than GM recommends on the stock bolts. Shocks and non run flat tires appear the way to go to remove bump steer.
