Hey folks
I have a '98 C5 M6 and this morning noticed something funny going on with my turn signals. when the ignition is on (Engine not running) the blinkers are normal, however when i start the engine the blinkers go very fast! at first i thought i had a burnt bulb so i check all 4 corners and all the buls appear to be fine!!! i am very puzzled on what would cause the blinker to go on a high speed chase when the engine is runnig!!!! has anyone experienced such thing before???
I am planning on driving the car across the country soon at the end of the month and the last thing i need is electrical problem!!! if its not the buls or rusty plug, could it be my turn signal modeule? is it expensive? easy to replace? where is it located?
Thank in advance guys!
PS: i am new to vette world and this is my first corvette!
ok ill give it try thank a lot tho!
i also been reading since its not doing it all the time, i could have "Ground" problem.
one thing i forgot to mention is that, when it starts blinking fast, i get a warning message on my screen saying "Service Vehicle Soon" is this normal???
On mine the problem was in the turn signal stalk itself. After nailing it down in troubleshooting, I pulled it out, then tore it apart, cleaned and adjusted the contacts and re-installed it. The dealer wanted close to $600 for parts and labor to diagnose and replace. It's not a tough job, just a little time consuming. Far less then the hazard assembly by the look of it.
while it can be a few different things, the hazard switch problem seems to be the most common. it is also a bit easier than pulling everything else apart and rebuilding/refreshing it. start there after reading some of the previous threads here.
Quite a few different things when you look closely at the schematic..

I'm glad I didn't....would have been pissed if I had to pull all of that out, buy a flasher, install it, only to find out it was something else.
Your best bet is to troubleshoot it (only need to drop the kick panel) and then you will know exactly what is wrong. Randomly changing parts is seldom a good idea. The schematic is available on here somewhere....
The hazard switch is hard to change. I'd do a thorough check of the rest of the system before replacing that switch.
The turn signal bulbs are dual filament bulbs. One filament acts as the turn signal and the other acts as the DRL once the handbrake is off. The fast flash is telling you that a bulb is out. It's possible for one filament to fail but still have the other function working. It could also be at the rear.
I'm guessing but the fact that it's intermittent may mean the bulb has not completely failed yet. Did you check all the lights on the car? Did you confirm that you have DRLs and turn signals working?
If the service vehicle soon caption is coming on it means the car is setting a fault code. It might be a totally unrelated issue. Check the codes. You're looking for a "C" (current) code. The format is a letter, 4 numbers followed by an "H" (history) and/or a "C". If it's history it means the fault is no longer present but might still give a clue.
Post up your codes and it might give an idea of where the problem lies.
