Just used a speaker magnet for tpms
Just wanted to let people know I used an old speaker that was on the way to the dump to train my new sensors.
Worked perfectly.
I asked a few people I knew if they had a magnet or an old speaker laying around and they thought I was crazy.
No special tool needed.

Good to know. I had to buy a big one to get the TPMs to program when I fitted my Cray wheels Steve.
My old US car speaker worked great in Vegas. Maybe its a Right Hand Drive thing on speaker magnets?

You have an 02 so yours are the cheaper TPMs. If they are the originals it'd be better to replace them when you fit new tires. You run the risk of having to change them when they fail if you dont bite the bullet.

been there done that but another tip if you have aftermarket rims that have the TPMSs mounted by bands in the center of the wheel you can get a crow bar or other heavy steel rod/bar put the mag on 1 end and place the other thru the spoks of the wheel over the location of the TPMS and program that way.
heck of a lot easier than removing each wheel, i had tried to pre program them and gave them to the tire shop with specific instructions on which wheel to put them on, they screewed it up.

I had to spend a few $$ on one of these:
Maybe after market wheels are different. Never had the problem with the stock rims.

Someone gave me some chrome wagon wheels (I know, but I really like the chrome ones and the original 99 factory look) and I just transferred the old tps sensors to the "new" wheels. Left rear did not respond to magnet. (just picked up 4 small square ones from Home Depot and they work great) Called the local dealership and was quoted $187.00 for a new sensor. OUCH!!!! Decided to try the internet auction site and purchased a "re-furbished" one for $45.00. (new battery, sealed and guaranteed) Works fantastic. Keeping the old one now for an exchange. Got 12 years of use out of the original sensors.

How to know which magnet works.
Let's clear this up for everyone, but I need your help.
In order to locate the correct type magnets to use for this purpose we need to know the following.
1. Are the ring magnets magnetized through the LENGTH or WIDTH of the magnetic ring?
2. Do you have any idea of the magnetic strength required?
3. What are the dimensions of the original (manufacturer supplied) TPMS magnets. OD(outside diameter), ID(inside diameter), and W(width)?
If the magnets are magnetized through the width of the magnet (assumed correct) which pole (side of the magnet) needs to be facing the tire, North or South, to properly trigger the read inside the TPMS?
See where I am going with this, if we have that simple information then anyone can Google "RING MAGNETS" and purchase what they need online for much less than the $15.00 + we see for TPMS magnets.
Some people are trying to charge an outrageous $45.00 plus for a TPMS magnet, which cries of greed.

I've used old speaker magnets to train my TPS. Worked like a charm.
