Default New Corvette Owner

Z06 Corvette Owners,

Recently bought myself a 03 C5Z and have to say I am disappointed I didn't start here before. I originally was a 5.0 Mustang builder but over time it faded. Have a few questions with basic bolt on upgrades, since I am not familiar with the Corvette just looking for things that worked for you all. I don't want to make it some hopped up super machine just do some basic performance upgrades for the weekend California coast rides.

1. Recently bought the Borla Stinger quad tip exhaust; any bad reviews from any present day owners?

2. Working on purchasing a B&M Ripper; any other recommendations for shifters? Not trying to race but I want a solid/sturdy feeling short throw shifter. I am hearing the C6Z shifter is very good.

3. MSD coils? Worth it? I have Iridium IX plugs with 8.5mm wires; suggestions?

4. Would like to do the whole exhaust so this is what I am thinking; Kooks long tubes 1 3/4 to a Catalytic Converter connection pipe...will this marry up to the Stingers? Are there other suggestions on headers that you all found to work?

5. Any other ideas for upgrades anyone has done that they are so happy they did?

6. Other items on car is the K&N Cold air intake.

Thanks for reading, drive safe and responsibly.

Welcome aboard Goliath.

Sorry to hear that your disappointed with the Z's performance out of the box. I had a few 5.0 Mustangs as well and they were pretty easy to make fast, but they are no way, shape, or form a Corvette. That being said, the LS6 is a great platform to mod. I'm not sure what you had done to the stang, but with a few simple suggestions you should be on your way to a faster car.

A lot of guys have taken the shifter and box assembly out of the C6Z because of it's smoother shift points. It's a pretty easy sway, and worth the price since it's not that expensive. If you go to the C6 parts section and post up that your looking for one, you should get at least a few responses from sellers.

You have a couple of options for longtubes with, or without cats. We have several forum vendors to buy from a decent prices. If you don't want to break the bank I suggest XSpower longtubes. Reviews on fit and finish seem to be pretty good, and they should mate up to the borla's. Once thats done I strongly suggest you look at getting a custom tune, and that's where you will probably notice the most gains out of your setup. You can ask questions in the "tune" section of the forum, many knowledgeable people and vendors. Ultimately, not sure what you want to do with the car...make it a killer at the track, or just more power for the street but this is a good start.

Cheers.

I do apologize, after reading I can see where I confused you all...I was saying that I am sorry I didn't start with the Corvette's instead I started with the Mustang. So I correct myself on this, I am in love with the Z's performance, it is awesome!!!

That is what I am reading from this forum on the C6Z shifter which has my curiosity, but right now I am trying to purchase a B&M used for a $100. Considering the new price on them I am thinking this is a great deal; any negative feedback on the B&M I hear that it is precise with more road noise, but muffling it with Dynomat seems to work as I have read on here.

I will definitely look at the tuning if I choose to go with the full system, really to be honest I am not looking to rip it up or track the car. I guess I am the junkie who likes to know that beneath his foot is a monster.

Does anyone know of a good tuning shop for Vette's in So Cal?

Default welcome

You'll find many ideas and if you are patient most likely the part(s) for sale on the forum at a much reduced price. Also most vendors here are easy to deal with and very knowledgeable.

First of all, Welcome to the best Corvette Forum.
I have the Borla Quad Oval Stingers on my '01 vert ( Not a Z ).They are loud and have a nice burble on deceleration. Some like them, some don't. I like being able to hear them myself. Many have the Borla's, Corsa's, GHL's, BB's etc. Hard to say which you might like. Check out other Vette owners cars that you see, we're always happy to help and talk about a Corvette.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, I will try to post and give as much feedback as I can on topics that I have knowledge on.

Update: I bought the Borla Stingers, I have my loyalties and I used to use Borla on every car I had. I hope they don't let me down this go around.

Welcome to the corvette world!! I am a former Mustang guy myself...used to work on my 89 5.0 at the Auto Hobby Shop on Pendleton. Wish I still had access to it!

There is a ton of great information on this forum, and between here and LS1 tech you can find a DIY for just about anything.
