So, I bought a used changer from a forum member. I hooked it up, and it makes a noise 4 times, then says error. CDs are in right (upside down). I do not think the metal piece in the back on the gear appears to be moving very far, is that the problem?? Looking for any help in making this work.
P.S. this is not a rant on the guy who sold it. He gave me money back guarentee and I have no doubt that he would honor that, but before I have to mail it back I want to try everything and see if I can make it work. Thanks!!
Some CD changers will not accept burned CDs. Make certain that you're using only original CDs to eliminate that as a possibility.
The CDs take time to load after you insert the magazine. You should hear all kinds of whirring noises. While this is occurring, you should see the icon on the head unit flashing. When it's ready to play the icon should stop flashing.
Mine is tempermental too. Lots of whirring and stuff before we get to the tunes. Haven't used it in a while but if I remember correctly, I think it looks at all the slots to see what's it there and then loads a disc.
Also make sure you let it do it's thing as it looks for all disks including empty slots...before starting the car. If you start it while this process is running, it'll interupt it and cause an error.
Ive ran it that way, and tried it with only 1 store bought cd and the other slots empty. It made 4 cycle sounds and then shows error. I think it may be fried...
a more accurate description would be it attempts to cycle a cd, but i don't think it actually does. it makes really short sounds, almost like the mech is jammed somehow.
well, I opened it up to see if there was anything obvious. I did get one gear back running that was jammed. The actual cd player part moves up and down now, and before it could not. It will not grab a disk though. I have checked the motor that runs the grabber (for lack of a better word) and it works. If i take the motor off of the gear, I can move it by hand. I can not move it witht he motor attached (without forcing it and breaking anything). I powered it up once with the grabber in the "loaded tray" postition, and the grabber moved back. however, still never attempted to grab anything. Any suggestions?
The mag vs internal gearing is probably out of sync now. No clue how to resolve it unless you can apply power to it while it's open and get the mechanism back into some normal position, then install the magazine.
Ditch the CD changer and get an IPOD2CAR adapter. Not worth the headache. I was going to install a changer in both my Vette and my Grand Prix, bought everything I needed for the install. Did some testing before I did the actual install and found that these CD changers seem to be very tempermental. Worked great 1 day and the next day it would act up. When I discovered the IPOD2CAR adapter, on this forum, I installed it in my Pontiac and would never consider the CD changer now. A direct, wired connection, 5000+ songs, and some control through the head unit. Will be installing 1 in the Vette soon.
don't have an ipod. also dont' want the cord. I want the CD changer simply because it is factory, and one option my car does not have that I wanted when I bought it. Now im trying to fix that, lol.

That's weird i have one in my truck and tractor. The one in the tractor always works never skips and your always bouncing around same as the truck never skips and always works. to the op Just make sure it all the right way i know i have put them in wrong before and it won't work.
CDs are in correct (upside down). Changer is just not pulling them into the laser. I have one more idea. I might set up with the mag in and one of the disks manually loaded by hand, then power it up. Maybe this will get it going.
