I have an 04 vert, A4, VaraRam, XS headers/hi-flow cats, GHL's,3:15 rear, mail order tune, new Bridgestone tires. I know this is as simple as it comes for bolt ons, but I've never been to happy with the power. At a stop with TC off it will spin the tires but not to the point where you say I should let off this is scary. It will catch a little tire after take off when it shifts into second. I'm not looking for a rocket ship (yet). I just want to know what it should be doing. Maybe I need an in-house tune??
An A4 with the 2.73 rear end is not exactly a "burn out machine"
You have to work at it a bit, maybe a little brake (I was doing that wrong back when the car was new to me and I was "exploring the envelope"). For a while I thought something was wrong or it was underpowered but have come to understand that a whole lot of engeneering went into NOT making the wheels spin from a start.
A big smokey burn out for a mostly stock A4 with the 2.73 is going to take a little cheating (brake).
3000 RPM's and let the clutch out and the thing will smoke them all the way thru half of 3rd gear but by then the tires heat up and start to stick. If i leave gently it won't start to cut them loose until about 5k rpm's in 1st gear. That's due to the cam i'm running as it's torque curve is higher than a stock cam so it doesn't bust 'em loose as easy from a dig. When i was stock it did a better low rpm burnout. But HOLY crap does it fly once you hit about 3k RPM's in any gear

most people are more worried about how to keep their tires from spinning rather than trying to spin them... traction can win lots of races, i wouldn't worry about if i was you... and just because you can smoke your tires doesn't mean you're fast and isn't a good tool to judge what power level you're at either... just take it to the track and see what it runs and let the times do the talking
My car seemed to burn rubber pretty good despite it being an A4 with 2.73s. It is much better after adding a 3.42 diff, a Yank SS3200 stall and a Chuck C.O.W. tune to the mix... and sounds good doing it after a complete exhaust upgrade.

I didn't mean this to be a burn out theard. I didn't know how else to compare acceleration and SOTP power without actualy going to the track. The ability to break normal street tires loose seems to be a real world test. Also like when shifting to second in A4 and breaking the tires loose a little shows your putting some power to the ground. I'm just trying to compare. Seems like often some guys with bolt on mods are saying sit down your in for the ride of your life.
If you wanted a real performance car, why'd you get one with a crappy 4-spd A/T, and lousy gears? You sound like you're disappointed in your car's acceleration. I suggest you invest in a PD supercharger; problem solved!
Hey Steve, Our set up's sound about the same and I have to let off the throttle when lighting them from a stop or it will not stop. On the highway if I smash it between 50-60 mph it will go sideways, scary. Jim
That is just the point,,, here the GT500 is a 4000 lb. boat that will out run our Vette's. Sad but true.
I've read several comparos, and the GT500 is always dead last. All parameters, including acceleration, cornering, and road track lap times aren't even that close. Some have the Porsche Turbo ahead in some parameters, but the ZO6 always has the best track time, even when the stupid writers pick whatever German car that's in the test as their favorite.

Yep , never seen the gt500 come out on top .
In the real world it's gonna come down to the driver .
