KBB has been bought by Autotrader based in Atlanta. Did you know? I wonder who the car crazy guy was that started the trader? Could be a vette nut on CF for all we know.

Found that out incidentally when I Google'd Autotrader + some wording. Date of announcement was Oct 27, 2010 that KBB is being bought by AT.

I confirmed it with AT today when I discussed my 40th ad.
And now they own KBB. AT already partners w/NADA but there won't be no buy-out on that one I don't think. That's an association of dealers.

Damn! do you have any idea of the possibilities if it had been me that thought of doing the autotrader? Instead of a tiny 24X24 garage I'd have more than 100 to put in one. And I'd give Rogers in Orlando some competition. He gets to buy and sell his inventory of 100 toys while enjoying all those Vettes. A must see when in Orlando.

Yeah Yeah, don't remind me abt the If...

It's the drive to see things through. I get comments about my patents and products and hear the "I had an idea for yada, yada, but didn't follow through" quite a lot!

IBTL!!!!

I quess kelly blue book is now just data resource that will be worthless with a retail pressure to publish pricing that is like "stepping on the
scale"....

Actually the original Auto Trader was started here in the Tampa Bay area. It was printed on that old paper that left all the ink on your hands when you picked it up. If I remember correctly, it sold for a quarter and was available at all the Pick Wicks and 7-11 Stores. You supplied the picture and write up and they would print it. Later they started to offer their people to come to your location and take the picture. The cars were in no specific order in the magazine and I use that word loosely for the original AT. So if you were looking for a specific car you need to look through the complete book, although in those days it did not take too long. I read that the original publisher made out real nice when he sold it.

In DC/VA/MD we had the Want Ad Weekly. "Advertise FREE Pay ONLY when you sell" Direct quote from one that featured my Red SWC on the cover. Was cool to walk into 7-11 and see your own car and the front of the house on the cover knowing it was in thousands of stores at that moment. That was not the only one that made the cover. They must have like my 76 Bright Yellow Coupe on the beach at Daytona Beach since they used it twice and sent me a little reward.

That was a nice operation they had going out of Gaithersburg. Dealt with Dianna, Janice, Fay & Sharon. Always paid the fee when something sold. Don't know if The Want Ad is still around or not. Cost was $1.25 back in '92. That was another great idea. Very popular before the Internet took over. Which takes us to the likes of Ebay & Craigs list.

I would imagine that the merger will just make them both better.
