I thought about getting them after the motors went bad on my red car but instead sold it for the black one. If they do go bad again I will switch them out.
I read somewhere that if the aftermarket popup projectors are heavier than stock it can take a toll on the headlight motors and gears? I am thinking of putting in projector popups and looking at how difficult the install is, no instructions supplied. I think it just is a matter of preferance. Rob
ok. acid wash jeans werent made in 2002. when someone wears them these days, it still gives the look of that era does it not? mullets werent first done in 1999. do you call that a look from 1999? no, you refer to it from other years when it was big.
ok. let me specify. c5 headlights look like ugly popup headlights used on various cars from the 1980's. which makes them not appealing to me.
Thats the great thing about Vettes. With all the mods available you can make it your own. To fit your taste. For instance, I prefer to have my standard pop up as opposed to looking like a frog.

lol, u r an 80's baby aren't u?
Ugly pop ups? The whole idea of pop ups was to preserve the car lines and keep the 'beauty' of the car intact... ugly is the opposite of the intention of 'pop ups'.
Of the cars that I know of with pop ups, they ALL looked better than they would have if they'd had exposed headlights;
Porshe 928
Saturn SC
Corvette c4 and c5
Fiero
Firebird
Now name me a car that looks better with exposed headlights? LOL, that ugly vette of yours doesn't count.

closed they look great. its when they are open when it gets ugly. just bulky and out of place. do I think the depo style is better? yes. do I think they are the best. no way. but its still an improvement. but lets not call out ugly vettes. especially when yours has that stupid ugly roll bar.

I agree that the stock headlights look best (IMO) on a C5 due to the aforementioned "frog" syndrome (though I have seen some people pull off the fixed look on a C5 when they get a good kit that doesn't have the bubble), however, the following cars with fixed/exposed headlamps look SEXY:
Ferrari 458 Italia
Lambo Murci/Gall
Audi R8
In response to the OP, the C5R used fixed projection headlamps because of three factors: weight, aerodynamics, and reliability. Unless you're endurance racing in the dark and you're driving skill level is on par with the C5R drivers, you won't notice much if any of the benefits from the first two.
The reliability issue is valid for us everyday drivers. The headlight motors will eventually wear out and result in the dreaded winking Corvette. When this happens to mine, I will simply have the problem fixed at a fraction of the cost of fixed lamps.
