Are we talking about spending HUNDREDS of dollars for red calipers?
Last I checked, a can of VHT or Duplicolor paint was around $10 or so!
It's a quality issue. You can definitely paint your calipers and if you're good with a rattle-can they may come out pretty nice.
Until you see these powdercoated ones it's hard to appreciate how good they really are in comparison. The biggest thing is that the stock calipers have SO MUCH crap in them just from the casting process that if you just paint them, you're likely to accentuate those bumps, scrapes, etc. If you get these (as I did) you'll find that they clean them up quite a bit and then put two or three layers (depending on whether you get the standard or candy) of powdercoating over them.
Mine look REALLY sick and I'd definitely recommend them over a rattle-can job if you're looking for a high-quality piece.

Once you paint them, how do you guys get the Corvette lettering white again? Do you then paint them with a small brush?
The 'Corvette' lettering isnt actually white, its just bare metal. Before you paint the calipers you can just use some Chapstick or Vaseline on the letters. After you get done painting it will just wipe off of that area. You can then clear coat the entire caliper if you wish.
Powder coating calipers looks really nice and clean, but it is expensive. Painting your calipers yourself is much cheaper and comes out looking pretty nice.
If you do decide to paint your calipers yourself feel free to pm me for tips. I've painted my three past cars myself; it's not hard, it just takes patients.
Sorry this isn't a close up.
Here is my old Mustang Cobra that I did. And yes I did paint the COBRA lettering by hand.
It return on investment as far as I'm concerned. Now let me see:
$5 can of paint for decent looking calipers or $300-$500 for perfect ones? Now let me think!!!!!!!!!
Return on investment suggests you're going to get something of value in return for your expense. $5 for rattle can or $400 for high quality powder coated. I would offer that either way, you get what you pay for. I choose not to visit the dollar store when it comes to parts for my vette.
Need new brakes who in ocala can do this correctly without costing a small fortune? Want a set to last awhile any recommendation? Would like the red ones also.
I forgot to mention but you should also pick up a spray can of black caliper paint (not the brush on) and take off the bracket that holds the caliper and paint it black. Look at the picture of the cobra caliper that I posted to see what I mean.
If you paint everything red it looks kind of cheap and if you leave it unpainted then it looks unfinished. It only take a few more minutes; just hang it on a wire hanger and spray it with a few coats.
