Default ECT's with A/C on?

What kind of ECT's are you guys getting with your a/c on? My car hasnt overheated but today it was 90 out. I drove to work with the a/c on and the ect's stays around 192-198. I got to work and sat in the car for about 8 minutes with it on to keep cool. I glanced downn and saw my coolant temp had reached 246 so I shut it off. Is this normal?? I think it would of kept climbing had I let it run any longer. Plus the a/c blows warmer air while driving down the road but cold air when stopped.

Not sure what you mean by ECTs but 246* is too high IMO. Fans should kick on before that and help cool the car back down. Might want to check to see if there is some blockage in the radiator area, maybe a sticking thermostat, etc.

Engine coolant temps. I'll take it to a local corvette shop this weekend for them to check it out. The fans are running though the whole time.

Mine does the same thing. But on the highways it runs in the high 170's. With the AC on and just street cuising it will just climb and climb.

Mine was at 220 today (81F) constantly. It kept rising slowly too, so I had to blast the heat. I am strongly considering a mail order tune so the fans will turn on sooner. I really dont like having those temps that high.

I did clean off the radiator a few months ago, so much $hit was on it - it was unbelievable.

Possibly time for a coolant flush?

That sounds like an idea. Maybe I should have the local shop I go to change the thermostat and do a coolant flush. Might as well change the brake fluid and power steering fluid as well while it is in there.

it shouldn't get that hot while idling.

check that your driver side radiator fan is not broken.

my temps would do the same thing until i realized that my stock 2000 fan had broken away from the radiator shroud.

here's some pics. you can see it broke at the plastic where the nut held it to the motor.

i cut it out and replaced it with a SPAL. now the temps never get over 180° regardless of the car traveling or not.

I know for a fact the passenger side fan works but I have never been able to tell about the drivers side. Thanks guys. I will check that out!

How hard was the panel to remove?

the passenger side fan only activates when the A/C is going or when temps get super high...i don't know the exact details of the operation. the driver's side fan is operational all the time so it makes sense that it would be the one to fail.

for the driver's side, just reach in when the car's engine is off and cool and try to rotate the fan blades with your hand. it's very easy to check.

this is how i discovered my problem when my temps were climbing that high.

the fans/shroud is a bit of a hassle to remove but not too bad.

I'll check it after work thanks. May order a Spal love those little tornado making machines.

Burningrubberc5 you are in normal operating temps btw.

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

This is right from the tech manual.

I checked last night and both fans were running with the car at 192 degreees. At what coolant temp would I start having problems? With the a/c off it doesnt go up anywhere that high.

the electric fans are turned on as soon as you turn on the a/c. with the a/c off the fans are programed from the factory to kick on at approx 225 and if all is well and you are getting good airflow, you should see the temps come down even while sitting at idle. my 04 convertible will run between 192 and 200 (give or take a bit), but it will climb if i am stuck in traffic until the fans kick on (at approx 225) and the temps are brought right back down. i certainly would check to see if there are any obstructions or debris helping to block the radiator. i installed a screen under the open area in the chassis below the radiator to help keep junk out and i use a blow gun and air compressor to clean the area a couple of times a year.
