I don't know if this will help. I just completed a trans cooler install. I used a Thermo Dynamics oil cooler rated for 18000btu.

Used some aluminum flat bar to bend out brackets to clasp the ac condensor. Added a foam strip to keep everything tight and absorb vibration.

I have it spaced out at the top about an inch and the bottom about 2 inches. This isolates it a bit more for heat dissipation

I'm very happy with how it turned out. I'm thinking it dropped trans temp about 20 degrees.

Bending the flat bar wasn't too hard, to get your bends all equal takes some planning. I used a vise and a cresent wrench in the vise for the tight bends.

Well i hope this helps give you an idea...

Great job ^^^ looks good . I am still stuck on how to mount my fanned cooler. This may be something I attempt.

I gave this a lot of thought before I added a cooler for my A4. Since I live in the PNW, we get a lot of cool weather and I din't want to over cool my A4. So what I found was a trans thermal bypass valve. It keeps the trans fluid away from the cooler until 170 degrees, then opens the cooler circuit over 170.

The radiator way is better in cold climates where it can help the transmission heat up and regulate temps easier.

Logic tells me that this would depend on which one is first in the flow. Cooler then radiator could mean the radiator will heat the fluid back up, that the cooler just cooled off. Radiator then cooler would seem more desirable.

Of course, but I think anyone with any sense would run the after market cooler second

A thought here......... If your concerned about over cooling in certain climates, it might be best to run your cooler first. Then your radiator will keep your fluid a more constant temp. Plus save you some coin on purchasing a thermostat by pass gizmo.

I put a seperate tranny cooler in one of my C5's a few years ago. It's installed in the return line and does an excellent job of keeping the fluid significantly under 200 deg. F - even in traffic in 100+ temps.
