Default Got a Tune....WOW

I've had my Z for a little over 2 years and have only made conservative mods...vararam, borla stingers and c6 z06 shocks

I was bringing my car in to Josh at Resurrection Motorsports for spark plugs/wires and he told me that my car would come alive with a tune. I said sure, let's do it.

Prior to tonight, I THOUGHT my car was fast. After the tune, Josh took me for a ride in my car to show me what the car can do. This was the fastest car I had been in in my entire life!

I can only imagine what a supercharged z06 feels like. Maybe I'll grow into that sometime down the road, but for now I can't express how happy and impressed with this car's performance and the quality of my tune.

Is it the tune or the fact that he drove the hell out of your car for you and you don't?

Not just dyno hp... it really makes the car more snappy all around with throttle response, etc.

Some get better mileage (with a great tuner) some get worse with guys just jacking up timing and adding some fuel.

Varies, but even a so-so tune is better than factory which has more in mind than just raw acceleration.

Glad you're happy!

No, it's the tune. There was an immediate improvement in throttle response and I can tell a difference in the way it sounds.

As far as drive style, even with a more experienced driver behind the wheel, I know that it didn't drive this well prior to tuning.

I truly believe that whether your car is stock or modded, it will only be better with a QUALITY tune.

If they supposedly increased hp of this ZR1 by over 100 hp with just a "tune", I guarantee you that the "tune" involved increasing boost. I'm not a mechanic but this is only common sense.

How do you increase boost by 100 hp without swapping pullies?

The ECU probably controls the wastegate (just guessing) and they likely tuned it to open it at higher pressure, thus allowing more boost. There are other ways than just a pulley to make it happen...

It would be a cold day in hell to pick up that much from just a tune on a zr1, not to mention you cant make anymore boost without swapping either the lower or upper pulley.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but that's impossible. The car has a tune, pulley, snout etc..

Yes, boost was increased.

You are correct, can't be done.

It does get cold up here but you're right, in this case upper pulley and snout, and a few other things.

Do superchargers have wastegates? I thought only turbochargers have them. A wastegate is, if I recall correctly, a valve that bleeds off exhaust gases away from the impeller in the turbo.

Mr. Davenport, just curious, is this correct? or is boost simply a function of the pulley on the ZR-1?

In the case of the ZR1, the ECU limits the boost level based on pulley size. When boost is increased the ECU must be calibrated to compensate for that increase. Otherwise the ECU will open the bypass valve to limit boost.

Just to confirm wastegates are on turbo systems, the TVS supercharger on the ZR1 has a internal bypass valve.

Hope that helps.
