In Oregon, the law requires license plates on both front and back as I think they do in most states .I don't have a front plate and I have never seen a corvette in Oregon with one.I guess the police just don't bother us about this. I am planning on taking a trip in my vet convertible that will take me into Cal.Nevada,Arizona,Utah,Idaho, and possibly Wyoming.I am hoping to find out what some of you travelers do about the front plate issue when you go into other states? If anyone has any ideas I would really like to hear from you.
I know in Wyoming you have to have a front license plate, but I believe that if you are from another state where it is legal, you should not have a problem.
Here in CA, it is required, but really depends on the officer who spots it. However, you are allowed to place it on your dash. I don't have one on the front, but keep one under my passanger floor mat in case I get pulled over I'll just pull it out and tell the officer that it slid off my dash
A Sheriff friend of mine said most officers, like him, look the other way when it comes to vettes without their front plate. However, he did say that there are some chickensh*t officers out there that would gladly ticket you.

Actually it is not true that the dash is ok. I can show you the ticket to prove it - and the judge who agreed with the officer. The ticket even stated "No front plate. On front dash".
You should not have a problem. Most states will not enforce front plate laws on out of state cars. The officers generally don't even know which states require them and which ones don't (and which ones don't even issue them).

Obviously you'll be taking your chances if you are supposed to have a front plate on the car, but I think I would just go for it and hope for the best.

I stand corrected, guess I don't have to keep the plate under the mat anymore. Funny though, my son has been driving his truck around with his plate on the dash for 5 yrs and has never been cited...I better let him know how lucky he's been.

Keep the plate there. Most peace officers will let it go if they see it in the window. It's only the guy that wants to be a jerk that will cite you anyway.
Been pulled over for it a few times here in NY. The last time being about four years ago. The fine I think was about 125.00 but it's most likely more now. I drive my Vette a lot, so if I have to pay it every four years or so, then so be it! Everyone says I'm crazy and I should just put it on because it's the law and I'm just throwing away money and all that, but the car looks so good without the plate that it would bother me every day to see the plate on the front. So I consider it a "fee" just like paying extra for a vanity plate. But hey, thats just me and my way of justifying what I do. If you feel it's your duty to comply with the law and avoid possible fines then you should put it on. I know, I set a bad example and believe me I feel terrible about not obeying the law, but I feel bad only for about the time it takes me to write the check, then I look at my Vette and the guilt magically goes away.
As I was riding my bike to work today, I realized that it does not have a front plate....never thought about it....nor is one required. So the obvious question is why is it required for autos and not motorcycles?

Thats an interesting point. Both are motor vehicles on public roads, so it would stand to reason that bikes should need two plates also. Oh well, you know the old saying, you can't fight city hall, right? Anyway, I'm keeping my front plate off and taking my chances, after driving Vettes w/o front plates for about 24 years now I've only gotten pinched a few times, not bad so far. With my luck, watch, I'll get a ticket on my way home tonight for no front plate!
I'm not a Cop but know a lot of them. Things like this, things obstructing your view like hanging fro the rearview mirror, broken tail lamp covers.... They like to save those for situations where they just need a reason to pull you over because they suspect something else and think they might get you on something bigger. I live in Illinois. Took mine off and put the blank back in because I couldn't get the plate holder to look right. But I know they have "probable cause" to pull me over anytime they want now and if it's just some jerk who's jealous that I have a Vette, I might get a ticket! I'm already planning on saying "Lighten up Francis!" and "Put it on my Tab!" :~)
