Lets say, I'm about to change my PCM. My Corvette is a '98. Can I use any other PCM module besides the '97-'98. For example, the '99, '00, '01...? Has anyone tried something like that without rewiring?
Thanks,
Tony
A little rewiring???? Here's a cut and past from the article you linked to:
The basic idea of performing this swap involves removing all 300-320 wires from the PCM connectors, and remapping them into the correct positions for the '02 PCM

I guess that is a LITTLE rewiring..........
Reading the whole article, it looks a little time consuming but actually pretty easy. Probably a one day job. I might give this a shot next winter.

Well, if you read the link I posted, the OP says with two people it will take "the better part of an afternoon". As an electrician I think I am competent enough at IDing wires, following schematics, and trouble shooting if needed. A day with a buddy and a 12 pack should be just fine.

If you are doing major horsepower mods, the newer PCM is much better at handling the rapid data required. It's like comparing a new computer to an Apple IIe.
RockAuto has remanufactured early PCM's for $109-$197,the later model PCM is $98-$181
I'll spend the extra $16,(if the need arises)but I have no major engine mods... It pays to shop around a little...
Yep; I found one from a forum member for $75, and a couple more for around $100
And by the way, you can make quite a bit of hp with a 98 pcm (ask me how I know )
IF, it was a straight swap, I would have went ahead and changed to a newer one, but for the trouble, AND the fact that I'm SD tuned, it was no benifit to me
