So I've had an issue with my temperature going a bit high but it only lasted for a day then ran constantly at 210* like normal again. however driving the past 2 days i've noticed by gauges are being a bit funky. on the highway, it runs perfectly fine at 210* and oil pressure is around 40-45 depending on my driving. however, in town my temperature has seemed to get a bit higher. it's strange though because it doesn't slowly move up to 225, it randomly will jump up around 3-4* at a time and go up and down a bit. my oil psi stays around 34-low 40's, and it may be me but the temp seems to go down if i turn my a/c on? any ideas why this is happening, other than the gauges the car is running perfectly fine. after getting off the highway just a few minutes ago and driving through town it stayed at around 211* though so i'm not sure if the problem is going away again or not lol. i've gotten a p1416 air check valve code before but been told its not related and totally doesn't matter so i've cleared it when it comes back, doubt its related to this though.
a bit more side info, i have noticed a bit of a burning smell at times in the car, possibly sensor wires being burnt? and i doubt it matters but this problem first happened immediately after getting new catback.
I tried to do a few searches of regular temperatures and temperature fluctuation but couldn't find much. if that's normal then i'm happy lol it doesn't seem like a big deal but i just worry thinking it could be related to the burning smell.
I'm betting it's a water pump. When mine went bad it started out the same way. The A/C makes a difference because it turns on the fan. The good news is it's only an hour and a half job to replace it. Easiest water pump to replace ever. Shop around and don't buy it from a dealer, but do buy the GM part.
Have you checked the radiator cavity for debris? My temps rose last summer that scared the crap out of me. Once I cleared/cleaned it , it ran lots cooler. BTW, if turns out to be the water pump, I just bought a new Bosch from Amazon, and paid $107.00,shipped. But check the cavity first.
i checked the radiator a week ago but i'll check it again once i'm back home. and what other issues do you think i'll notice if it's a water pump? should i worry about the temperature right now or is it not a big deal to drive around on?

All depends. Just to be sure, I would drive it close to home, getting it good and hot and if the temps look like theyre in the normal range in fairly warm weather, you should be ok. What about the thermostat? Maybe you could swap it out for a 160 , then see if that solves the problem before you decide to get a water pump. Replacing the water pump is easy, the thermostat a lot easier.

i drove it home today from monterey (2 1/2 hour drive) and it was fine, temp good the whole time. i feel like it only went high on days where the weather was abnormally high.
What's the water level in the radiator look like? When the water pump goes it usually starts leaking out the weep hole. Mine didn't leak a lot, but over time the water level got low enough that the car started to run hotter than normal. You might notice some antifreeze smell.
