Dont care how many 55's you have had it dont weigh 3100. Not even stripped with a six. Lighter than an aluminum framed two seat Z06? Right.
Yes, Certain model "55s" did weigh in at 3100 pounds! They were the "150" business mans coupe which was actually a striped down "150" sedan that had no wipers, radio, backseat, carpet, etc...These cars were a favorite among us guys who ran in modified production and the upper gas classes. I ran these cars for several years in the N.H.R.A. sanctioned points drag meets. My car as well as others running in these classes were weighed in before every competition to ensure they were legal for the class. I ran against people like Gene Moody and Joe Hrudkka ande Thurman taylor back in the old gasser war days. These guys were national record holders and I held my own with them. And yea, they were lighter than A c-5!
It's funny how the old "heavy" cars of the good ol' days are not really that heavy anymore in comparison to the cars that are in production now. The reason why the cars today are so heavy is that they have seat belts, side impact beams, air bags, sound deadening, catalytic converters, ABS modules, emission equipment, power windows, steering, brakes, air conditioning, ect. Nothing weighs a lot by itself, but when you add it all up, it makes a car heavy, even with an aluminum frame.

Most folks think the cars are heavy.Iget it out every now and then enjoy the looks it gets.I think the most one i had weight is about 3300 lbs.One day i would like to put a ls motor in it. But for now i will enjoy it and the corvette .buy the way the roll off is going to happen today.
Just a thought. Ok, which is faster? My 02 vette, my 81 El Camino, my wife's 08 Nitro, my 96 Kenworth T-800, my 03 Heritage, my 64 John Deere lawn tractor, or my 18 speed bicycle? Sheeesh.
Well we did run the cars. We run from a 20 mph to 100 mph.We run two times both times the 55 pulled about 2 cars lenghts. And it never looked back.Just older guys having fun.

I could blow the blades off your 64 John Deer lawn tractor with my Kabota BX 2660 diesel tractor with the 60 inch belly mower!
I was driving the 55 my son driving the vette .Son is 31 years old he is a vette man he keeps one at all times. I know the vette would have passed me if we ran much futher. Both cars is a blast to drive. Bad news the state trooper got me.He said he seen it all then he wrote me a ticket. The ticket was for child abuse.Really thanks for all input it was all just for fun.
Who's "we have" ?
What are the mods to the C5?
What is the hp#'s in the 55?
Where is this bench racing taking place and how much beer has been consumed?
AND LAST...is there any beer left?
Sarge, you forgot to ask the MOST important question: what colors are the cars painted? Everyone knows that black is always fastest.
