Oil Sending Unit Nightmare
I have a 99 LS1. Whoever was the engineer that decided "the more pcv tubing the better it must work" should be shot. And the little vacuum line on the back of the intake manifold?? WTF!
So here are the things that broke...
- fuel evac line from solenoid to fuel line (thanks Marc from Vettenuts!)

- passenger side rubber grommet connecting the the PCV system nightmare just disintegrated (replaced with some high pressure transmission line tubinjg I had laying around)
- Dropped 2 of the little blue seals from the injectors down into the intakes... Hey, valves look in great condition. LOL
- PCV elbow that goes into driver side valve cover cracked in two.

- Right hand pinky finger now has a lot less skin.
- One small rubber "plug" left over that I can't tell WHERE it goes... small, black, soft pliable rubber that is about the same size as the caps that go on a bottle of royal purple lube. Help? engine runs fine so I am not tooooooo worried.

On the positive note, I can now tell my oil pressure!!!!

Its probably good that I got in there and jostled some things around. The car IS 12 years old and some of those rubber/plastic pieces need replacing anyway. I think the evac line was cracked already and I just helped it complete the process.
Still pondering the rubber piece though..
it was filled with oil...
Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful task.

Sometimes things go wrong, you prob. Needed to change those parts anyway they were dry rotted. I made a little extention for the p.i.t.a. Hose at the back of the manifold, otherwise it wasnt that bad. Good luck in the future

I ripped apart an entire 2005 mustang when it was 2 days old just because... LOL
Just makes you realize the gap between the engineers that put things on paper (or computer) and the people that fix and repair these things.
I switched mine to the brass Buick sensor. There should be a DIY with parts in the tech section.
Good luck with this one. I have WAY more tubing and crap behind my intake than he does... No way I could get a socket in there.
This time will be a pain in the a$$,but the next one won't.
As luck would have it(?),my passenger side air check valve took a dump at almost the same time(another well thought-out part placement by GM),so while I'm in there....

I did mine that way too about six months ago. Took about an hour to do and has been working great since. Very simple procedure and if it happens again I have an access panel that will cut the time in half.
