Default Clutch issue

Hi everyone,

Was driving other day, and was doing about 45 MPH and I got on the gas hard and shifted from 3 to 4th gear and once in 4th gear and clutch pedal was let out, I noticed the RPMS increased as if I was in partially in neutral and the clutch was engaged, however the car was not accelerating in speed. There was quite a bit of clutch burning smell..... Is this a sign of need for a new clutch? I have never changed the clutch oil and the car has 30K miles approx..... I was reading about the necessity of changing oil frequently....would this be the problem? After the incident, the car was not having issues going through the gears, and clutch felt fine

You could try changing the clutch fluid but based on your statements it sounds like you'll be needing a new clutch in the near future.

Contact Gene Culley for an LS7 clutch/flywheel assembly. Good price and it fits!

I concur with the others. The symptoms you describe are a slipping clutch. After it cooled down a bit it would feel ok. Whats your mileage and power level? Look into a Monster Level 2 for 400-450 rwhp levels. Its a full face kevlar disc and is great for the street.

Buy any clutch other than a GM clutch! the auto adjustment in them causes them all to slip

That's fine and for heavy performance, other clutches might be better and might not. Its up to the buyer and the needs of the buyer. In my case, I just needed a clutch that was going to last a long time and still not slip under normal driving conditions and the LS7 clutch was really strong compared to the OEM clutch.

Thanks everyone, the car is completely stock except for an exhaust system....... I had a look the install pics and instructions posted by canjun, looks like a fair deal of work to undertake at home with some jack stands and jacks. Seems like there are numerous speed shops in the US who offer product and install for under 1k, however I don't think there are to many places if any here in Canada which specialize in corvettes. Something I now need to think about.... I see there is mention of an LS7 clutch and some after market ones. Thinking an aftermarket one like the Monster level 2 would be adequate and would cover any future mods I might be interested in upping the power.

Contact RPM Transmissions then as they are a forum sponsor plus they are probably more than happy to advise you of possible clutch needs for the future.

Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions about a Monster. We are currently having a sale of $100 off and free shipping in the continental US, but PM me your address and I'll get you a quote.
