ported vs pattern cut throttle body??

Anyone out there that has 1st hand expieriance with a hand ported throttle body vs a pattern cut throttle body?

I am/was considering having my LS2 throttle body ported

.....but there are vendors that are offering the pattern cut tb's for the same price as having one ported :eek (plus core)........anyone out there have any knowledge of this???
