Well I guess i now know why I never see anyone posting anything about a race or speeding or not using your turn signal even when its 3am and no one is around you or breaking wheels loose. I'm glad we are all such good law abiding citizens on this forum.
I think I might just convert my corvette into a hybrid now so I can get good gas milage and go slow while still looking cool.

Thanks 91redragtop and GM Fan

It all comes down to where and when you are doing it. If the only person you are putting at risk is you, then it is not a huge problem. When you start trying to have races in town, or on an interstate with traffic that is a a problem. but two cars stopping on a deserted 4 lane and making a romp up to speed is really not that big of a deal.

I understand wanting to have some fun with the car, but posting street racing stories here on the forum is not something that will last long. Don't be surprised if this thread gets locked soon.

Exactly! Plus with the undercover cars that cops have nowadays you don't want to be fooling around in the city.

This is the first time I have ever posted anything about racing on this forum and everyone is going crazy about it. Jeez if I knew this would happen then I would have never even bothered in the first place. I hope they end up locking it...this is getting really annoying.

I would never exceed the speed limit or do anything else wrong. Yeah thats the ticket.

Truth be told I do mostly drive legal and never get too crazy. They now count private car tickets against your CDL and I need my job. I have a feeling when I retire and don't need a CDL anymore I am going to make up for it to some extent. But for now I need to stay less than 15 over as 2 of those and suspended CDL and no offenses that are more serious than that. But I won't preach to others here about it as I chose my profession and will take the down sides. It sucks having a Vette and having to obey arbitrary speed limits. The interstates and most state highways were 70 when we drove tanks with bias ply tires and drum brakes. Suspension technology was an oxymoron. You can not convince me the same roads are not safe at 70 in the city ares and 90 or more in rural areas with modern cars. Just sayen. Thats not to say racing is OK buuuuttt.

For every hp added power to weight ratio of the vette grows faster than the power to weight ratio of the camaro.

Check out the example(lower is better):

Stock C5 lbs/hp: 3200/350 = 9.14
Stock SS lbs/hp: 3780/422 = 8.95

C5 with bolt ons: ~3200/400 = 8.00
SS with bolt ons: ~3780/470= 8.04

What started out as a faster car is now a slower car =)

stock for stock, driver race slight edge to the camaro. bolt on v. bolt on, driver race, slight edge to the c5. as you add more hp to both, the gap will widen. A car would improve more losing weight than gaining hp in most cases. Lost weight is just like adding hp as far as "go fast." It also increases brake performance (less mass to stop). can help handling.

That being said, im not taking out the 100's of lbs worth of comfort crap that i think I need (Power seats, stereo, hvac, carpet, passenger seat, door panels, carpet, etc.)

that's interesting. i never did the math on it. but then i never had 2 cars with their dyno printout side by side to compare either.
also you cheated the camaro. give it the extra 2 hp and it results in 8.00 if taken to 2 decimal points.

Let me say right off the bat that I am not taking up for street racing or saying it's right. But, I will say that most Vette owners I know are some of the safest and most particular with their cars drivers I know. Yes, the majority of us like to drive fast, I think that is one of the reason why we buy fast cars. Now, I think what is happening on this thread is a little bit of the "swallow a camel, but choke on a gnat" syndrome. People like to beat up on driving fast, but too many drivers like to grab that phone call or text as fast as it starts ringing and talk on the cell or text while they are driving their shiny Vettes and distracted driving is WAY more dangerous than driving fast. Also, the Vette club I used to be part of and hearing other ex-club members tell stories about it, too many Vette owners like to have their monthly meetings or monthly cruise activities take place in restaurants where they serve alcohol and they sit around and soak up the liquor and beer and then have NO PROBLEMS getting in their Vettes and driving away in them, and we don't even have to go there on how dangerous that is. Boys and girls with our toys are gonna have fun from time to time, I don't think we need people to be busting our chops or locking threads to try and prove a point. Be responsible when you drive fast. JUST SAYING!

I agree. Most of us grew up cruising the strip and having impromptu races at our favorite safe, non LEO infested highway on Saturday night. To include those who frown on these conversations now. That's part of what made and created this hobby. To get all wee weed up about it is immature. But I also understand and agree we shouldn't glorify "dangerous" driving, and the largest percent of us know the difference. Heck go on the Hot Rod Power Tour and see what takes place.

I also believe most of us are the safest drivers on the road. I generally abide by traffic laws but when I'm in a safe environment I have been known to let it fly, and I won't apologize for it. tell me LEO's who have these cars don't let it fly on occasion themself and I'll call that person a liar to their face. I've driven performance cars long enough to know when and when not to do it.

New Camaro = two-ton turd hit HARD with an ugly stick!

A disgrace to the memory of the lovely Camaros from 1967 through 1970-1/2.

Uh oh, street racing stories? IBTL

Should have used the clock thing like another racer did a few days back. Rolling start at "30 minutes" not 30 mph. Moderators would never figure out the clock analogy was mph.

SERIOUSLY! Dodge did a GREAT job with the Challenger, Ford did a pretty good job with the Mustang, then GM TOTALLY misses the boat and gives the public the current Camaro. All they needed to do was use the C5 underpinnings with a 69 Camaro body and they'd have cleaned house.
