C5 GoPro HD Fun!
The sound is a biggie for use with cars too IMO. The GoPro HD does a pretty good job of beating windnoise. Pretty sure w/ the Contour all you'll hear is windnoise. From what I understand there is no comparison between the two on audio quality. Could be wrong.
The GoPro also has a light mode specifically designed to work from inside the car and capture footage out through the windshield. I don't think the contour has that mode, in which case it may well capture nothing but the interior and then a super glared/bright windshield and almost nothing else outside. The GoPro does that if you don't have it on the right mode, but on the correct mode it works great and captures great in car footage... I haven't see that specifically mentioned for the Contour.
The Contour also doesn't do any still image capturing, where as the GoPro has some cool timelapse modes with several intervals between pictures you can set, and I think it has a 3 shot action picture mode. I haven't played w/ the time lapse or still image stuff, but I've seen some impressive stuff others have done with it.
I'm sure the Contour has some pluses too though. I think I read you can attach some type of standar camera lenses and filters to it, so that might be a big plus for some uses. Search for comparison reviews on google or something.

So...you could take this on a 2hr drive, recording continuously, and get the whole thing(of course, with a 32gb card)...I see a new toy in my future
For the HD model in car and sub-100 mph they recommend to use the open vented non-waterproof back plate on the housing. Seems counter-intuitive but the open back has less wind noise under 100 ish mph according to the instructions. Thats the only back plate I've used, works pretty good for mine. Of course there will always be windnoise but it has worked pretty good to capture exhaust sound too, especially in-car. Course if you have a stock cat-back maybe that is the difference, perhaps my XSPower exhaust can overpower the sound of wind, lol.
One trick I read about is to put a 3/8 vacuum cap or similar over the front button piece on the camera housing. Apparently much of the windnoise is generated there and putting a plastic/rubber cap over it will make a big difference. I presume that should help w/ the older standard def GoPro as well. I haven't tried this yet but will when I go to track in a couple weeks.
Also, if you are using one of the 3m tape mounts, make sure you use the little horseshoe shaped rubber isolator/plug piece on the mount. It stops vibration/noise that might be some of what you're hearing (and also locks the clip in to where it can't come out of the base). Here is a video of what I'm talking about, had to google it to figure what the heck that piece was for when I opened mine, lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA-BvymgNxI
Last thing is try to keep wind turbulence in mind and mount the camera away from the side view mirrors or any ducts, etc that might cause turbulence to hit the camera. Try some different areas and see what works best.
Edit - Found this thread doing some google searches. Apparently a Micover professional mic cover made specifically for the GoPro all but eliminates windnoise. For $17 I'm going to get one too, less windnoise can't hurt... Looks a bit like a funky little toupee or the camera, lol. Third video here plus he describes it more down the thread: http://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149907
Micover page: http://store.micover.com/stickover/m...ver-gopro.html
I also found some threads on various gopro forums of homemade windscreens you can make out of a plastic water/soda bottle. You might research that further if interested.
