They've come down in price a long ways. About $250 or so now with a bunch of stuff. I recently did a MN to Black Hills trip with a bunch of friends and one came off(dirty mounting spot) at about 40-45 mph and just had minor scratches on the case. Camera worked perfectly fine

For those interested in getting one you can get the HD Motorsports camera kit on fleabay for around $230 shipped. Got mine for that about a month ago. Though you do then need to buy a SD memory card, I got an 8 gb card for like $15 or something at a local target, probably should have spent a little more for a 16 gb.
FYI prices vary wildly on fleabay, but search for "gopro hd motorsports" sort by price and there are a couple guys selling new in box with buy it now with 10+ available each for $230-$240 shipped
