I am wanting a catback system to increase the sound at idle, as well as throughout acceleration. Is it possible to get one that is quite a bit louder than stock (with a x-pipe as well) without too terrible of a drone while driving an automatic - 30 min drive to work each day? I don't want to spend as much as the Corsa's cost, so those are out of the equation. Any input would be helpful, although most people will most likely just put the exhaust that they have.
I have the nxt step ones on my 2002 auto (well, mine I bought from Granatelli), but the nxt step are the same and are sold on ebay. The price has gone up on them some over the years but they are still much cheaper than the corsa, borla, etc.
I love them though.. quiet when cruising, no drone, and loud enough when you step on the gas.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with an x-pipe unless you're putting headers on and it comes as part of the kit with that. You won't see much difference otherwise.
B&B Bullets on mine. Love'em! Perhaps because I am younger, I don't understand what the complaint is about "drone." Isn't the point of a louder exhaust to ummm.... hear it?

Hey Alex, sure the point is to be able to hear it, but to me there is a difference between hearing it and having a constant buzz going off in your ears, sometimes to the point where you can't even hold a conversation with a passenger. I had a set of B&B Route 66s on my previous car and before I put an X-pipe on it, it was driving me nuts with the amount of drone. With my Corsas on my existing car, you can certainly hear the exhaust but do not have to put up with that annoying drone. That's just one old guy's thoughts though.
im under 30 and i agree with you 100% there. i guess its something thats fun the first time, but then after the "hey this is awesome!" buzz wears off, its more annoying than anything. im quite happy with my exhaust sounding great when accelerating/WOT and not being obnoxious at cruise. if im cruising i'm doing just that - cruising. which means music, wife, friends, etc. not "omg i cant get enough of this sound i think ill enjoy nothing but this for the next 2 hours."
My Borla stinger have no drone at cruising speeds, but they have to be installed correctly. i have had them for over 6 years now and absolutely love them.

No worries.
I know there are some systems that are developed for lower cruising sound but are more aggresive during WOT. I had a catalog from LGM a while back that gave a chart indicating which systems were loud/medium/quite during certain driving types. The B&B Bullets and SLP Loudmouths were loud for all ranges, so I chose between those two LOL.

thats cool, never seen that chart. i was just browsing forums, ebay, etc and found a Corsa "unknown" exhaust on Ebay, saying "its missing bolts and a bracket, maybe other parts, look at the pics" and it was a complete Corsa Pace car - for $400 shipped! luckily enough I love how it sounds - i had no idea about drone or not, but at $400 i couldnt go wrong.

I recommended Z06 Ti catbacks but if you had Corsa on the table I got like new for 800. Comes w/o drone. Prefer to take trade in Ti-mod by-pass + cash but haven't followed up as yet. That would save you 400-500.
Shipping will cost you cause they're heavier than Ti. Again, I suggest Ti to you.

I'll try to see if I can find it when I get home. Hopefully I don't forget LOL.

What exactly is "installed correctly"? I've had my Stinger quad tips on for a while, and eventually put on a Bassani x-pipe. The x-pipe got rid of some of the noise, but the drone's still pretty evident. I've got an A4 too, by the way.
