Default Question for the Knowledgeable

My car is a salvage vehicle, so it doesnt work like a stock one.
I wanted to know, if my engine oil temp is at 230 and I shut of the car, are the fans usually operational, like in other vehicles?

And my second question is, what oil temp is it ok to go beyond 4000 rpm?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I've attached the description of how the cooling fans operate. It doesn't say whether it carries on working but I know from my exerience in Las Vegas that it can and does run on after you turn the engine off. I assume it runs until it hits the relevant temperature.

The cooling fans have a power feed which is hot at all times.

The fans are triggered by coolant temperature not oil temperature.

Cooling Fan Control

The engine cooling fan system consists of two electrical cooling fans and three fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the powertrain control module (PCM) to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage and ignition 1 voltage from the underhood electrical center. The ground path is provided at G102.

During low speed operation, the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the cooling fan 1 relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and supplies battery positive voltage through the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the left cooling fan. The ground path for the left cooling fan is through the cooling fan 3 relay and the right cooling fan. The result is a series circuit with both fans running at low speed.

During high speed operation the PCM supplies the ground path for the cooling fan 1 relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. After a 3-second delay, the PCM supplies a ground path for the cooling fan 2 relay and the cooling fan 3 relay through the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the cooling fan 3 relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and provides a ground path for the left cooling fan. At the same time the cooling fan 2 relay coil is energized closing the relay contacts and provides battery positive voltage on the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the right cooling fan. During high speed fan operation, both engine cooling fans have there own ground path. The result is a parallel circuit with both fans running at high speed.

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

Plus this part about the fans made me wonder about oil vs. coolant temp.

I can't find any references to oil temperature at various RPMs. the engine mechanical specs only give oil pressure minimums:

6psi @ 1000 rpm
18 @ 2000
24 @ 4000

IIRC The oil temperature warning comes on at 320F but I cant find that in the book.

Just out of interest what oil temp are you seeing that has you worried?

I usually wait until my oil temperature is up to at least 60°C before I start going to higher revs. But, I wouldn't worry about it too much since this is less of a concern with today's synthetic oils.

Your car is a salvage vehicle or your car is a salvage title??

There is no good reason your car should operate any differently than the next. If your car doesn't operate the way the owners manual says it should SELL THIS CAR!!!

Thank you all for your information!

The car has a salvage title, and was in a frontal accident. My friend who owns a bodyshop/garage rebuilt it for me.
There is no point for me to sell it, since i already payed 1800$ on taxes, and Corvettes are quite more expensive in Canada than the states, you can surely ask Cybermind, I think he can concur.
The hassle of importing another one would be too great, even though it would be amazing to have a non salvage Vette...

My temperature DeeGee is 110C once warmed up, and I can feel the "hesitation" of the engine when stepping on it. I was wondering if it is a normal temp for the oil.
Luckily, I ordered a Autocal Efi Live from Chuck, should get mid June, hopefully the tune will keep my temps down.
As I said, I know there are a few things missing such as the AIR system etc.
I would love to meet someone with a Vette to compare and see exactly what I'm missing, but Montreal has a scarce Corvette community (I find).
Once again, thank you all for your inforamtion!

110*C = 230* F. Seems normal to me.

What do you mean by "hesitation?" Do you mean that when you get on the gas there is a delay, or do you mean while your on the gas and the rev's are building it hesitates? If it is the first one it may possibly be a PCM issue. Have you tried running the internal diagnostic to see if you get any codes? If you do this make sure you clear any old codes first then do it to make sure you get accurate results!

ps
Isn't cybermind located in Montreal as well? Maybe you can compare with his car???

Yep I agree with 110 degrees C being normal oil temperature. I wouldn't worry about it and i seriously doubt it's the cause of your hesitation. Was your car built back to stock or do you have any mods such as intake, exhaust?

And, Vettes are definitely a lot more expensive in Canada!
If you want to meet up to compare and see what you may be missing, PM me. I am always willing to help out a fellow Vette enthusiast.
