Default C6 Z06 shocks question??

How long will it take my C6 Z06 shocks to settle on my car so I can stop driving this 4X4 Vette around?? I am lowered as low as you can go on stock bushings but after the shock swap, it looks like I put a lift kit on it!!! Hope they settle soon!!

I just installed mine the other day and by the time I got home from the road test it had settled back to the normal height. I am not lowered so that may make a difference.

Mine took a while. Settled a little bit right away. But it settled more over a month or so.

Can you guys explain why you switched to these shocks? I have 90k miles on my car and the steering feels a little sloppy on the highway. I was hoping some shocks and sways would help.

My speedshop works on mostly LS1s but more firebirds and camaros (also the new 2010's). They said I might be better off getting aftermarket instead of OEM C6 z06 parts.

Thoughts?

I wanted better handling in the curves! With the C6Z06 shocks and C6 Z51 sway bars I have picked up 5 to 10 MpHs in the curves on roads I run. Plus, for the price, you can't beat the upgrade!!

The C6 Zo6 shocks are a big improvement over stock C5 shocks, so go for it. I also upgraded to Z51 Sways not the Zo6. I think you need different size tires in the rear w/the Zo6 sways.

To answer the OP my car never settled. Its about 1 inch higher w/the Zo6 shocks. I can live w/1 inch above the tires. Doesn't look as good but I clear my driveway now.

ty

i also believe it's better to go OEM since things will most likely match up fit and finish wise compared to some of the finagling required with aftermarket, but for close to the same price, i'm not sure if OEM is as good as aftermarket in terms of function/performance.

just because they are cheap doesn't mean they are right. if car is lowered c6 shocks on c5 not good idea, I personally don't believe they are better than c5 stock shock and definately not better than o4z shock...my 2 cents. do your homework and talk to the pros, use search and get more bs and real info than you really want, good luck on your choice whatever it may be.

My car is lowered all the way on the stock bolts. Front end ended up higher after the C6 Z06 shock install. Ride is MUCH better. I had nearly 80K on my Z51 stock shocks. I am planning on lowering the front end again,,,very soon!

It takes a day or two of steady riding with a handful of bumps or just go to a development that has a handful of speed bumps.
The gas in a new pair of shocks is strong. I made the same change a while back and I LOVE the difference of the ride and especially cornering.
BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

I don't understand why it would take that long for your car to settle to the right height. Shocks shouldn't do that. When I installed my Bilsteins, the car went to stock height almost immediately. Shocks should not cause a change in ride height on a stock setup ( not lowered).

My bad. I see that you're lowered. You should've gone with Bilstein SP which are specifically designed for lowered suspensions. Just saying.

Did you install the rubber bushing on the top of your shock that came with it or did you re-use the C5 stock rubber bushing on the top of the shock from your OG ones?

The C6 Z06 shocks rubber bushings are thicker and will raise the C5 up over the stock rubber bushing!

You might have to get longer bolts for the rear and the after market ones for the front to get it back to the way you want it!

Thanks,Matt

Tangential question: What is the difference between C6Z and Grand Sport shocks? Have seen threads touting the GS shocks and sway upgrade.

It can sometimes take up to 500 miles to get them to settle.
