The owner's manual says just the opposite;

The CHECK ENGINE light comes on to indicate
that there is a problem and service is required.
Malfunctions often will be indicated by the system
before any problem is apparent. This may prevent more
serious damage to your vehicle. This system is also
designed to assist your service technician in correctly
diagnosing any malfunction.

This light should come on, as a check to show you it is
working, when the ignition is on and the engine is
not running. If the light does not come on, have it
repaired. This light will also come on during a
malfunction in one of two ways:
• Light Flashing — A misfire condition has been
detected. A misfire increases vehicle emissions
and may damage the emission control system on
your vehicle. Diagnosis and service may be
required.
• Light On Steady — An emission control system
malfunction has been detected on your vehicle.
Diagnosis and service may be required.
see “If the Light Is On Steady” following.

I just wanted to put out the correct info.

OP..... I'm glad you found your problem

While some of the staff are lazy in their work, for the most part, our techs are top notch. Our dealership has some of the best technicians in Canada - most of whom have been with us for years and have won numerous academic awards. Our trim technician has won top Canadian technician in his field for the last 12 or 13 years.

I'm lucky working where I do.

We will see if that's the case. I'm hoping that swapping out the old plugs and wires fixed the problem!

Yes, you are and you are correct when you say there are some dealers that take pride in their work and understand the importance of customer service. Unfortunately that is not always the case and since we the public never get to meet or speak with the technician doing the work, trust is rarely established. Sometimes I feel like the dealership is trying to hide something rather than shield the technician from all of the experts who already know what's wrong and how to fix it. I've had good luck with GM dealerships but I've always felt like it was an exception and I was just lucky.
