Ack! Good luck with that. Perhaps a professional detailer.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when he couldn't get rid of the BO smell from the valet who parked his car.

Seriously, nothing is worse than old cigarette smell. I stayed at a hotel once and although it was a non-smoking room, it was recently converted from a smoking room. It smelled like old cigarettes covered in Pinesol!

Heavily sprinkle fresh(not used) coffee grounds on all the carpet,and leave the grounds there for a 3 or 4 days-when you vacuum them up,most, if not all of the stogie smell should go with them.
Smells a little bit like coffee in there before you vacuum them up,but it's better than Pine-Sol

Here are some suggestions (Note - I've not tried any of these methods as I have never smoked nor owned a car that was previously owned by a smoker):

GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator, GM part number 12378554, US A/C Delco 88900909, Canadian part number 88901678, may control or eliminate odors in the interior and luggage compartment areas of GM vehicles. This non-toxic, biodegradable, odorless product has been shown to greatly reduce or remove the following types of odor:

• Objectionable smells of mold and mildew resulting from vehicle water leaks
• Customer created odors, such as smoke

You may safely use GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator on fabrics, vinyl, leather, carpet, and sound deadening materials. You may also induce this product into HVAC modules and instrument panel ducts for the control of non-bacterial related odors.

Important: This product leaves no residual scent and should not be used as an air freshener.

This product may result in the permanent elimination of an odor and may be preferable to customers whose allergies make them sensitive to perfumes. This product may effectively remove odors when directly contacting the odor source. In cases such as water leaks, use this product with diagnostic procedures to first eliminate the primary cause of the odor. Then use further applications on the residual odor to permanently correct the vehicle condition.

How to use this product:

Spray GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator directly or as an additive with carpet shampoo in steam cleaners. Do not use on any interior surface that plain water would deteriorate, because this product will have the same effect. Also avoid letting this product come into contact with vinegar or any acidic substance. Acid-based products will hamper the effectiveness of GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator.

Instructions and cautions are printed on the bottle, but additional help is available. If you encounter a persistent or recurring odor, you may call to obtain additional information and usage suggestions.

In the USA, call 1-800-955-8591.
In Canada, call 1-800-977-4145.

======================================== ===========

* Try a product called Fridge Fresh that is put in your AC system ducting to remove the smell. Most dealers and shops have this product.

* Interior have to be shampooed and vacuumed thoroughly to get it out. Let the detail shop know that what you are trying to remove.

* A car salesman once told me they hang several fabric softener sheets around the interior for a couple days. It seemed to work on my last trade-in vehicle.

* Activated charcoal will work.
* FEBREZE should work on cloth interiors, headliner and carpet.
* Freshly ground coffee beans might work.
* Baking soda is used to keep a refrigerator smelling fresh and it's frequently used in carpet cleaning products.
* OZIUM is a product found at many auto supply stores. I know it'll helps reduce the smell of a decomposing body.
* If none of the suggestions work, then it might be time for a professional cleaning and/or new carpet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Removing Cigarette Smoke Smell from your Car

* Good old Vinegar
The same mixture of vinegar and baking soda that you used on the walls inside the house can work on the interior of the car (one cup of white vinegar for every two cups of warm water along with a good scoop of baking soda). Wash down the windows, plastic moldings, and metals with a generous amount on a sponge. Don’t use this on fabric, however. Treat fabric as you would carpet inside – saturate it with baking soda, spray with a diluted solution of essential oil and water (optional), let sit overnight, and vacuum.
* Cigarette Smoke Smell Home Remedies:
There are almost as many cigarette smell removal remedies as there are people. Some of the ideas appear to mask the smell with another more powerful odor rather than to remove, so be sure you are going to be happy with the result. Here are some of them:
o Fill a tub with vinegar and place it on the floor in the front seat, close the windows, open the floor vents and turn on the heat full blast. Let the car run in this state for an hour before removing the tub. Another version of this remedy requires hot summer weather and allowing the tub sit on the floor with the windows closed all day.
o Leave an opened bag of charcoal in the car overnight.
o Put a few drops of vanilla extract on a rag and toss it under the seat.
o Put a sliced apple in a cup and set it on the floor. Leave it until it shrivels.
o Sprinkle dry coffee grounds on the floor of the car, let them sit there for a few days and vacuum them up.
o Mix of apple sauce and cinnamon and put it into a jar with holes punched in the lid. Place the jar on the floor of the car.

Which ever method you try, be prepared for several re-applications. You are going to most likely need them.

* Cut two red apples in half and leave in the car for 24 hours...repeat as necessary. This really works, especially after a good cleaning of he carpet.

Here is the fix, go to store and buy charcoal bbq...the kind that are not easy start.
Next open bag and take 4-6 of them and smash them with hammer,so that you have pieces about 1/4 " in size.
Put them on a paper plate( or what ever u got handy) and lay the plate some where in the floor board with the windows rolled up.
It takes about a week for the magic to start to work.
Keep changing out the charcoal until u cant smell the odor on them.

I am in the appliance repair business and i use this all the time for fridges with a bad smell( baking soda is a joke)
This really works well---just relax and take it easy

Well, if none of those remedies work, you can always pull and replace all the carpet and uderlayment, that is where 90% of the odor is.

Odor bombs are pretty effective in the cars we've used them in at dealerships. Vinegar is another good choice to be used on any fabric that is absorbent. Carpet and headliners usually trap in the most smell. If you can pull out the carpet and hang to pressurewash and let dry a day or two outside in the sun will help eliminate a lot.

one easy trick to start with - and one I used a lot in a rental fleet - is to simply put a dryer sheet under the seats - heat activated so in hot weather they work great. I'd shampoo the carpets real well too (including under the seats and in the cargo area) - thats where most of the odor hides.
