Default Another tire question

Can a Mom & Pop type tire shop handle re-moving & mounting run flats? - I have used one small dealer for years but he said he has never worked with run flats - anything I should make him aware of? He has very modern changers.
Thanks Tom

I was told that it takes 2 people to either remove or install runflats (can't remember which) and that special equipment is necessary. The guy who told me this is the manager of a very large auto shop. He also told me that he cannot guarantee that the wheels would not be damaged. Now this was a few years ago so it may be different, now. I no longer use runflats, as the difference in ride quality after switching to non-runflats is truly astounding.

I'm thinking of going with non-runflats but I have to get the current OEM tires off!

Tech has to know how to use the equipment....my Goodyear guy can mount/dismount runflats by himself in maybe 10 minutes.

Now this is just my opinion, If your tire guy has never done run flats and not sure if his maching is set-up for them I would find another tire shop that has the correct machine and know how.

Run flats can be a PITA to mount without the right equipment.

I don't think I would let a shop that had never done runflats before experiment with my wheels.

I recently had my runflats removed so I could ship the wheels. My local tire guy wanted $8 each to remove them but then called and said he couldn't do it.
Called a goodyear store and they wanted $20-$25 ea!
Took them to town fair tire and they did all four in about two minutes and charged me a grand total of $10.
I'll check with them next time I need tires because of this.
