Default C4-c5

Currently own beautiful 1995 coupe and thinking about moving
to a c5. I could eliminate my malibu and the C4. Any of you C5
people that have owned C4's i would appreciate your comments
about how they compare.
The C5 would be my everyday car. I am retired and do under 10000
miles a year. I currently only put about 2000 miles on the C4
Trying to turn 2 cars into one. My wife has a Chrysler 300 so she
is covered

Thanks

The C5 is a leaps and bounds improvement over a C4 in every way. The first thing you'll notice is the low sill.

I still have one of each, a '93 and an '01. There is no comparison between the C4 & C5 in terms of performance, as the C5 is much faster. The C5 is easier to get into and more comfortable. The C5 is a superior car vs C4. However, I do love my C4 and appreciate the tecnology the C4's brought to the Corvette.

Same here! I have both a C4 and C5. The C5 is by far the better car in everyway. It's faster, easier to get in and out, looks much more the Supercar it is.

But I still keep my C4 around to remind me of why I love my C5 so much.

My C4 rattled pretty good... I hated that as well. The hand brake position bothered me too.

OK, now for the real issues. While the C5 still has a bit of plastic interior pieces, it's not 100% plastic like the C4s. The door panels, the dash, etc. all feel much better in the C5. The plastic pieces are also textured so they don't look like cheap plastic as well.

The C4's gauges suck. I never liked them. The C5 has clear easy to read gauges. The HUD is cool too. But there's no black and orange gauges anymore. Orange background with black writing not only hurts my eyes but at night it makes things blurry (I know, I need glasses). However, the C5's black background with crisp white writing is so much easier to read at any time of the day.

The C4's seats are more comfortable than my C5Z seats, but I think the C5 sport seats are more comfortable than the C4 seats... It's kind of a bust there since it depends on which C5 you'd be getting.

The headlights on both cars suck, but there are a lot more aftermarket options for the C5. I'm using HIRs in my C5 and they are 100% better than stock. Easily twice the light.

The C5 has better aftermarket. The LSx makes more power mod-for-mod than the LTx. You just can't beat the LS head technology (at the moment).

Some people talk about how the C4s are lighter because they're smaller. This isn't true. Both of my C5s were lighter than the C4s we've weighed at the scales. My C5Z was a LOT lighter than either of the C4s and the Vert was just about 100Lbs lighter. (All cars were stock with 1/2 tank of gas.)

One of the things I really loved about driving my C4 was that it really felt like a go-kart. It wasn't that fast, but it just had that nimble trackish feeling ever time I drove it. The C5Z definitely feels faster and handles 1000x better, but it doesn't have that go-kart feeling as much because it does feel like a larger car. It's wider and it feels like it. You sit a little higher as well.

Over all, I'd love to buy another C4, but not as a replacement for my C5s. I absolutely LOVE my C5Z. The C5 is more refined, and if you just sit in it with the car off, sit back and look around, you get a feeling that you're in a supercar. That's not the feeling you get from doing the same in C4.

I had 3 C4's ( 87, 91 & 93 )
My 04 Coupe is a dream to drive compared to the C4's.
One thing i did notice right off the bat was how ridged the car was when the top is off. All of my C4 seemed to flex when the targa top was off..Not the C5 , it's as solid as a rock !

I almost bought many C4s but thank goodness I did not, C5 is so much better. My step son has a C4 and he is wishing he had a C5 everytime he sees mine

You should be able to keep the Malibu if you get an older C5, they are really cheap and way better to drive than even the newer C4s

Well said. I feel exactly the same only I have a FRC not a ZO6.

Just made the leap myself in January from a 91 coupe to an 03 Anniv coupe. I don't miss anything about my c4 except accessibility to the engine compartment.
As stated in earlier response it is much stiffer with the targa off. Plus removal and storage of the targa is much easier.
No water collection points at rear hatch.Much larger trunk storage. Easily handles 2 sets of clubs with room to spare. Much easier to wash and keep clean esp around rear view mirrors, windshield wiper area.
Much better gas mileage and much more power, go figure.
Loved my 91 for 5 yrs but no regrets.
Good luck in the hunt.
