The only difference is the 1 and 2 on the back. Either or both will work. If you program 1 first, it will become fob #1. IF you program the one marked #2 first, it will operate as #1 fob. Just go into the DIC, fob program, and do the one marked #1 first and the other second and it will be like it was from the factory. In your case, you could program the #2's from ebay in any order and they will work fine. Again, it doesn't really matter as far as functionality, either will work as either fob on any 2001-04. I've done it and I know for sure.

good to know info, I just imagine why there would be two part numbers unless they were on different freqs or something. This is all to be able to use 01+ tpms senders.

Different part number since they have a "1" or "2" stamped on the back.
Adds another $30 to the price since they used two parts numbers and spent $100,000 dollars on the dies to imprint the numbers.
i noticed also that when you unlock the car and sit down with fob #1... it also uses seat memory #1.... found out the hard way when i was using fob #2... then it moved the seat and everything for my wife's settings...
BUT, if you program a #2 first, it then corresponds to the memory for #1 button on the car. In other words, the numbers on the back have nothing to do with anything unless you program them like they came from the factory. In his question, he was buying three #2 fobs, which will work just like the factory 1 and 2 fobs except they won't have the embossed number on the back. The frequencies are the same. 1 and 2 are determined by the order in which you program them, and not the numbers on the plastic on the back. You can also program in a third fob if you like. It can also be marked either 1 or 2. They don't make one marked 3.

If you use fob #2 and store the settings under the #1 button it doesn't care, it will work. Same thing programing #1 using the #2 button. The car really doesn't care.
The fob number just gives you an early warning that if your better half is 4'6" tall and you use her fob that your chest is going to get crushed into the steering wheel.

The reason there are numbers on the fobs is for the memory feature with different users, You can set 3 different settings with the fobs, 1 is for memory 1, 2 for memory 2 and when programing you can hold 1 and 2 memory buttons and have 3 different settings.
don't mean to hijack, but this business of switching over 97-00 C5's to use the 01+ remotes and TPMS sensors? are there details of this procedure? it means swapping out the receiver which is in the back hatch area correct? I might be interested in doing this at some point, eager to learn how its done.

Since you've already hijacked the thread, and no one searches anymore, here's one of many threads on the subject.
your thread is what made me decide to go ahead and do it. all 4 of my tire pressure read XXX so the batteries are toast. since I cant keep a key fob programmed longer than 5 minutes I figured it would be easier just to get all 01+ stuff.
