Or you could buy the newer model surrounding so you do not have to worry about it again, this is what I am doing since both sides are missing the circle.

I thought all of the headlight bezels for the C5 have access plugs? I know they changed the style of the plugs based on year, however the plugs are still required as I don't believe they created headlight bezels/shrouds without access holes/plugs.
To the OP - you can also purchase them from Corvette Central, Mid-America or GM Partshouse.

All C5 factory headlight bezels that I have seen all have the hole, But there are 2 different sizes. If there is a bezel wothout the hole I have never seen one and would like to see one.

Before you buy a replacement take a quick look in the headlight well area with a flash light. Mine was missing on one side and that's where I found it; it either shook loose when the light was down or by good fortune landed there from the up position.

...I also suggest that when you (re)install your new plug, duct tape it to the inside. Any serious light work I perform usually requires me to remove the entire bezel anyway.
check in and around and below your headlight..i know mine came off and it was chillin down below on the frame..i used some rtv sealant and it has yet to come out again

Went through this with my '99 FRC. Turns out there is an "early" cap and a "late" cap. The early (changeover in '99 or '00 as I recall) cap is slightly larger and snaps in place. The late cap is smaller and twists and locks in place. The early cap is NLA from GM, and GM's solution is to replace both headlight surrounds with "late" so you can use the "late" cap--which is B.S.. Eckler has reproduction early caps which solve the problem. FWIW.
