Hey everyone. I'm Chad. I don't know much about cars but 4 months from now I'm looking to buy a nice sports car. I was originally wanting a 2010 bmw m3 e92... Then I watched a bunch of youtube videos of zo6's smoking them easily.... The bmw costs like 55 grand. So now I'm thinking I could just buy a used zo6 and do a few upgrades to it and make it very fast and it would be much cheaper than buying a brand new bmw... I would really like a v8 vette. What would you guys recommend? I'm trying to plan ahead and find the exact model I want then I can tell the dealership to find me that exact one. I want AT LEAST 500 HP. I would like to find a zo6 or any other vette you guys recommend for no more than 35 grand. What upgrades could I do to the vette to make it much faster and how much would that cost? Thanks a lot!
You should check those youtube videos again. The vette probably ins't stock and there's a million combos you can do. I'm not saying it can't beat an M3 but would need mods to "smoke" one. If it was an 2006 Z06 or newer then you're talking at least $45k and those come with 505hp. A 2001-04 Z06 is going to need a few things to smoke an M3. An E92 is going to give a C5Z06 a run for it's money even modded. What Corvette have you seen smoking an E92?
Anyway, if you want to know mods on the C5Z06 to get to a certain HP then check the C5 Z06 forum or the C5 technical forum. If you are thinking the C6Z06 then you are a few grand short and in the wrong forum.
Give some info here to go on. Which generation vette are you wanting? Do you understand about what mods do what? There's lots of options, do you want forced induction or all motor? Are you looking to get over 500hp or over a certain track time?
You can get a C5Z06 easily for 20-25 grand and for another 7 grand have a supercharger installed. For another few grand while you're at it have internals done and you'd be all set.
With your budget, I'd say look for a C5 Z06 (figure on spending $25k after taxes, etc. for a good one without a lot of miles) and then add a supercharger ($6,500 installed). That will put you well over 500rwhp (comparable to a factory rating of 580-600hp). This is more power than a C6Z for about $10k-$15k less than you'll be able to find a used C6Z for. Then bank the rest of the $ until you've driven the car for a few months and figure out what more you want to do.
There are a range of options that guys go through depending on what they use the car for and what weaknesses are shown (suspension, wheels/tires, stronger driveline, audio system, upgraded interior, etc.). If you put a lot of power down, you'll probably find fairly quickly that you need wider/stickier tires than stock in order to keep good traction and that your driveline (transaxle) becomes the weak point.
In any event, you're in the right place once you get the car. This forum (both the users and vendors) is a wealth of information, experience, and the parts you're going to want.
This is the C5 section but I think you can find 2006 C6 Z06's going for $32K - $35K these days depending on the mileage. I'm not talking about garage queens with super low miles of course. Did you consider them?
