Default Feedback on Blackwing intake. Please

Before I go and spend the cash on a Blackwing intake, Can I get some feedback from those of you out there who currently have it installed? Right now the only mods I have on my 2002 Z06 are Borla Quad tip Stingers and Smooth intake coupler and a K&N Filter in the stock filter housing.

What I would like to know is after installing the blackwing could you feel a noticible difference in throttle response or power? What about Fuel economy?

In my opinion, the smooth coupler and K&N filer allow the best flow I can get out of the stock intake, would I really notice a difference going to the blackwing?????

Thanks to all who reply

I noticed a difference because I opened up the front fog lights for a ram air effect. It's a very nice-looking filter too. I'd recommend that or the vararam depending on your preference.

I also installed a Blackwing but I modified the radiator shroud for a true RAM-air setup. You could modify it yourself, and save some nice bucks. You can also look for a used Blackwing on the forum here as well. And with this set up ,I definitely notice better throttle response.

Or you could buy a Callaway Honker and have a true cold air intake that looks like it came from the factory.

I can't tell you that I really felt any "seat of the pants" increase in power. But I think it's a great set up and would buy it again.

Or a Vararam. With either one(Honker or Vararam) you will be able feel the difference.

I've had the Blackwing filter on my last two C5s. The ease of installation was a key factor in my purchase. I would say the throttle response was a bit better, but don't expect to really notice a significant improvement in performance. I would recommend the filter though.

As with others, I didn't notice a gain in power or mileage, but it is a gateway mod, that will help with other mods that require more airflow,
like heads or a cam. It would be a good time for the buy though:

John is a stand-up gent that I wouldn't hesitate to buy from!

I was a little too new to the car to really tell the difference.

I got my Blackwing from someone who installed it on his car, got into a car wreck, took it off and sold it to me for a very nice discount. I didn't fully appreciate the hp increase until I installed a Corsa Pace Car with X-Pipe exhaust system. What comes in has got to go out somewhere.

with Jack. I felt an improvement in throttle response immedialtely! But like any other mod, the "SOTP" feeling goes away with time. I will say that with the Blackwing, LT Headers, and a Tune I picked up a tad over 40RWHP.

It looks good, it's easy to pull out to clean, and the price it right...

I have the Blackwing on my own car and love it.

We sell just as many Blackwings as we do Vararam VRB2 units

Both 249.99 shipped
Vararam
http://shop.doubledmods.com/CORVETTE...VRB2-VR-B2.htm

Blackwing
http://shop.doubledmods.com/Cold-Air...5blackwing.htm

I will note the Blackwing is ALOT easier install!

I have a Blackwing on my Vette and to be honest it's worth it for an entry mod. Easy install, nice look, and once you start modding it can only prove beneficial. Plus compared to the cost and quality of other air intakes on the market it is top notch. The only three I would ever consider buying is the Callaway (#1 choice if money is not an issue), Vararam, and Blackwing.

Default Yes, but.......

Based upon viewing dyno results of many C5s, I know that:

a) Yes, an aftermarket intake system like the Blackwing, Halltech Stinger, K&N FIPK and others provide a nice increase in RWHP (see my signature for actual numbers).

b) No one intake system is superior to the others (Dyno HP gains).

c) ANY intake system will benefit from pulling in cooler air than that in a typical engine bay.

You have a couple of options with the Blackwing or Halltech. You can open up the fog light panels and add Z06 screens. Or if you don't want to hide/darken your fog lights, do what I did:

http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/Rad...op%20inst..pdf

I have reams of data from an OBD II "Car Chip" that shows a significant reduction in intake air temps. The main advantage to this mod is that not only does the intake air temps decrease (preventing as much as a 10 HP drop during slow-moving conditions) but also cools off the engine bay - something that the Vararam or Callaway doesn't do. Keeping the engine bay cool prolongs the life of electronics, belts, hoses, plastics and batteries. This is especially important if you run long tube headers, which like giant heat radiators.

So, in summation, yes the Blackwing adds HP but to retain that HP gain, you should feed it cold outside air.

I have one and it certainly add a bit of nice noise and grunt. It is a slight but noticeable upgrade. As mentioned in other posts, it becomes more of a factor when combined with other performance upgrades.

It's a shame all those thousands of "Blackwing" past threads in the C5 Tech archives (if you use search or search this forum in the red banner) go unread...

I have one. I went to the track before and after installing it. My ET improved by .1 sec and I picked up 1 mph which should mean I gained around 10rwhp.

I've had a blackwing for about 4 yrs now, noticed an improvement in performance on the butt-o-meter gauge soon as I installed it, easy to clean etc, and it goes well with my other mods since then... I'd buy another...
