I took my stock 2000 vert to the strip last night. It is a 315 gear and automatic. The car goes a 2.05 60 foot and a 8.58 at 87 mph in the 1/8 on a set of 285-40-18 on rear and front 255-45-17.My sons car went a 1.95 60 foot with a 2.73 gear and auto.It ran a 8.48 at 87 mph. tires was a275-40-17 drag radial on rear gto skinnies on front. So i switch tires and my car still run a 2.05 60 foot . WHY DIDNT MY CAR PICK UP 60 FOOT
285/40/ to 275/40/17 isn't much of a difference, so I wouldn't expect much of a change. Also, if the tires aren't slipping (my experience with my 00 a4 with gm hot cam and intake/exhaust) there's not much advantage to changing to a tire that's about 1/2" shorter. Also, you're looking at.10 difference between two cars and two drivers. That difference in 60' could be a attributed to a difference in reaction time.
Try putting your son in your car next time, see if he gets 1.95 in your vette

I am no drag racing expert, but I don't see how the 60' time is affected by reaction time. As a matter of fact, I am almost certain that it isn't.
I agree though, that changing to a drag radial won't help if traction isn't the issue. Your Son is a tenth quicker to 60' and the 1/8th mile, but you cross the 1/8th at the same speed. Seems like his rate of acceleration is higher, earlier in the 1/8th then declines and yours is lower early then increases later in the 1/8th. I'm sure there is a simpler way to state this, but that's what i got.
The 3.15 should have been a bit faster than the 2.73.
Maybe your son has modded his car just a little that you did not know about, like exhaust, headers.... etc. Something subtle.
the drag radial is a 275-40-17 the rear tire i was running are 285 40 18 The drag radial is 1 1/2 inches shorter and with the little skinnies we put on front. My tires and after market rims are 80 lbs heavier. I think my 60 foot should have dropped some And his car is a 2002 vert. Every body i talk to swear the drag pack tires and rims will pick it up.But it did not help my car THANKS FOR ANY INPUT
