Dude, is your McLeod twin-disk clutch really as smooth as the video makes it seem? My stupid RPS twin-disk is noisy as hell, impossible to engage smoothly, and makes street driving a chore.
It's actually very smooth and no noise, but like "zeevette" says, the engagement range is TINY, so unless you slip the clutch a tiny bit and time it exactly right, it won't be completely smooth. I have plenty of gear changes where you can feel the "grab" and "lurch" when I don't time it perfectly. Overall though, I'm happy with it. It can definitely take a beating!
Must Have Z you have the EXACT exhaust setup as i do. To include the headers. Lol sounds the exact same. I LOVE IT! My cam is a 233/239 on a 113. No vid yet tho. Have you noticed how the exhaust note will change under 2k rpms the hotter the exhaust pipes become??? I can even hear the difference in the video
Right on! I get compliments on my setup quite often. I recently met up with some new friends that both have Borla Stingers, and my setup was quite a bit louder and they really liked it.
I have a heads/cam setup with full exhaust and Borla stingers and I love it. It is loud and drones at 1800 like everyone said, but it sounds amazing.
I finished my bowl of cereal and put on my flip flops and went out and made this start-up video for you this morning. Go big or go home!
i have an 02 z06 with borla stingers, other than the stingers my car is off the shelf stock. since my car is clean no mods i think the sound of the borla stinger is just right , they sound good at idle and are good at cruising speeds.
must admit:
-they drone between 2500rpm and 3000rpm, but i don't cruise at those speeds so i'm ok with it.
-in order for no drone while cruising at highway speeds, you have to go a little higher on speed than desired then bring it back down to were you like to cruise and this will eliminate any drone.
but if you have any mods, headers, cams things like this, i know for sure that the borla stingers are just to LOUD not good for your ears in the long term. how do i know-------well the guy i bought the stingers from had these things and the reason he sold them to me was because his wife wouldn't ride in the car with him cause the stingers where just to loud---and i agree with her.
Borla Stingers drone. A lot. With headers they are almost unbearable at 1800rpm or so.
Having said that I have run Stingers twice and Borla XR's twice before. The sound at idle and WOT is pure heaven
Corsa is slightly more sophisticated and less thrilling to my crass and clumsy ears.
We have completely eliminated all drone/resonance from our C5 systems. These newly designed systems have absolutely zero drone but retain all the good sound benefits Borla has been known for. You can drive our new systems for the C5 in any gear, at any RPM, up hills, automatic or manual, they will not drone under any circumstances. 3 different sound levels to suit your individual needs, each with a classic Borla note and with absolutely no drone
I run the Corsa pace car set up with OBX long tubes and cats.
It sounds incredible. I like Borla stuff also, but not even close to the exotic sound of Corsa!

When did you update them? I bought a two tip stinger system about one to one and a half years ago and they drone bad at 1800 - Hoping a partition solves the issue.
I've had borla stingers and loved them on my Z. But i actually went back to the stock Ti because i prefer the higher pitched exotic tone plus the factory catback was lighter. Honestly the drone never bothered me. I had long tubes without cats and also with cats and i was rarely chugging along at 1800rpm. It's a sports car, not a daily driver. I guess i could see how it would get annoying commuting with it.
Oh ya and a partition will help, but again sports cars i sold my partition as well when i got the car!

This is also a McLeod RST dual + Tick Adjustable Master:
I just got my "new" 2001 automatic convertible and thought I had the Borla Touring but when I had tires put on it I saw they were Stingers. In any case there is no drone at any RPM if I am not on the gas.
David Borla - when did you go to the new Stingers? I really like the sound when I accelerate but it could have a more "tuned" sound like my old 1965 corvette with the off road N11 exhaust. That was the sweetest sound I ever heard. I used to sit behind it just to hear it idle. Not many N11's were made and no they are not the side pipes.

Our new Corvette systems were released on July 15th 2011. You can see the video we made at Bondurant here
Would anyone happen to know the part number of the new Borla S-Type (Stinger) Exhaust System for the C5 Corvette David Borla is referring to in the quote above that is drone free? Is it the part number 140039 exhaust system they advertise on their website?
I love the face melting sound of the Borla but Corsa put more R&D into their systems and their mufflers are built to not drone.
If it's a racer, Borla.... Cruiser/Highway, Corsa
EDIT: Just read that Borla redesigned their system. Would be worth a try at that point, even for a cruiser car. I really enjoy the sound of borla on a HP engine.

Off topic real quick : I also have a McLeod RXT twin disk. Pedal feel is great, smooth, a little harder than stock. No noise, and takeoff is smooth. Holds the 675tq my car put down without breaking a sweat. I've driven a car with a RAM dual disc. OMG the pedal was like a rock.
Sorry, I'm done, please continue with the exhaust.
