Mine had some kind of vinyl overlay which was bubbling in hot weather. I pulled it off fairly easily but there is an adhesive residue left. It's not quite as bad as duct tape leaves but still pretty sticky. I tried GoofOff, it worked somewhat and didn't seem to damage the plastic. What exactly is it? Lexan, acrylic, polycarbonate?
I have seen a refinishing kit for $40 or so, would that do it, or is there a stronger solvent I can use before the polishing.
If it is a vinyl overlay, then the 3M stuff should do the job.
Thanks guys! I just didn't want to craze the plastic, but goof off didn't seem to work very well. A trip to the NAPA store tomorrow It might still need some work after that but I'll have the gunk off of it anyway.
It was one of those projects, started pulling it from a corner, then.....oh well, too late now! Help from a couple of drunk lesbian neighbors is always fun too

Yeah, who says retirement has to be boring
Besides, I'm 15 years clean and sober and find drunks entertaining
I suspect aftermarket, it was black vinyl, well applied, not a sloppy job at all. I tried poking holes in the bubbles, blisters, it would just do it somewhere else. Only in direct sunlight, presumably the reason it was there for, to keep the interior from getting hot. I'm getting a liner for it anyway but I like the blue top in the colder months.
nj02vette, you are correct sir! Both a bit past their sell by date, entertaining nonetheless
