Hey guys, my 1999 c5 column locked on me last night and i cant seem to do anything to unlock it! It says "service column lock" Anyone have any advice? My prob is i cant get a towing to tow my car so i have to fix the problem on site! Any advice is much appreciated Thanks
That happened to me weeks after I bought my car. Slam the wheel hard, right then left. Move the key to the on position. If not released, slam hard right and hard left and turn key off. Slam hard right and hard right, then turn key on. I disconnected my battery for a bit at first, but I don't think that makes a difference. Good luck
No, I don't, but it should work. It works almost every time based on what I read here. I slammed mine like I was trying to break it off. If it doesn't work, try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.
8vette, i had the recall done on my car thought it solved the problem thats y i never installed the clb kit. Guess i was wrong :s looks like its gonna cost me big lol

It sounds like they've already hosed you down some.... If you had the recall done they would have removed the pin that actually locks your column and programmed your car to shut off when it exceeded 2mph (I think that's the right speed).
Just get the thing unlocked, FORGET ABOUT THE RECALLS, and get the CLB. That is THE ONLY!!!!!!! solution that has been proven to work 100% of the time.
U guys r the best! Thank god for this forum! i managed to unlock it! Like u said go hard side to side n it worked oredered the clb, not taking anymore chances!!!!
Thanks to all u guys who took the time to give me a helping hand!!!!
Yep, there are some truly amazing people on this forum who will help you get through most of anything. Good luck. Just an FYI, I had BOTH recalls done, at no charge, and so far I'm OK. But I do love life on the edge. Mine was 3 weeks old and in parking garage no tow truck could get to and it was a Holiday weekend and no techs were available, and my g/f found the answer here.
I maybe incorrect but if you had the recalls done, I understood by installing the CLB will not solve your problem as your fuel will shut off at 2mph anyways. If recalls were not completed the CLB would be the option to correct the problem. GM merely did the recall to cover their own asses against any lawsuits so that the car is undriveable when the warning displays on the DIC. Does anyone know if this is the correct?
