I replaced the back a couple of years ago with OE Goodyear runflats. Now alot of different tires come in sizes and runflats for the car. I was thinking of putting the Michilan Pilot Sport Z runflats of the front axle. What do ya think. Should I go with a different one. Thanks
I don't have any hard numbers or studies to point you to, but everyone I've talked to so far who moved to the Mich RFs from the GY RFs thought they were a big improvement - both noise and grip level.
If you want something more scientific, you could try to see if TireRack or Car&Driver have done any side-by-side tests...
Some people don't like the handling qualities when you have mixed tires if I'm reading your post correctly. Sounds like the fronts are worn and the rear's are still good? How many miles on them?
I've had mixed before, personally I didn't like it.
On my second set of Pilot Sport A/S ZPs, they are pretty good. I think the wear pretty quickly even though they have a 45K mile warranty. I'm still considering going back to the Eagle F1 EMT when this set is worn.
MY GY Runflats are practically brand new on back. I just saw that the Mich Pilots runflats are cheaper in price and a lot of people have raved about them. Is it going to be a problem running two different tires. They seem to be in the same class.
From my experience I noticed the difference, the vehicle felt less stable and squirrly at highway speeds. Both time I did this I'm sure part if the issue is one set being new and sticky while other set is a little worn. One time it was with same brand two different models, the other time totally two different brands but always RFs. Right now my rear Pilot Sport A/S ZPs the rears wore out at 24k so Michelin gave apro rate on the 45k warranty. So I have well worn same on front and recent new on back. It drives little less stable on those fronts with 30k on them. They are almost to the wear bars. Most of my driving isback/forth towork a couple miles local roads, weekend trips to the coast about 90 miles.
So I'm almost in the same boat as you do I replace the fronts with another A/S ZPs or do all four and considering going back to the Eagle F1 EMT. I like the Michelins when they are new but the second generation Plus models still seem to wear early.
you will never go back to runcrap tires once you buy normal handling tires. I am now on the BF G-FORCE KD tires but they are very old and i need new ones even though they dont have much mileage (its their age that concerns me).
Before going to the KD's, I tried had Potenza and Michellin and I was not happy with either of them with my power. I actually drove the tire store nuts on this in a month. Went back there a 3rd time before they recommended the BF Goodrich KD's (not the KDW's). This was the best street stick tire I ever had and consider the that I have over 600 rwhp in the car if I turn the boost up.
The KD's are strictly a max performance summer tire though so in the rain you will need to be carefull. But they have grip like you would not believe. Only an R compound has better stick

I have Michelin Pilot runflats on my 2001 and love them nice and quiet and just great for road trips and twistieseded - believe it or not but I have 68k miles on the fronts and they still passed inspection last month. I just picked up a 2004 that has the OE Goodyears and absolutely hate them - 2 damn loud and don't feel stable to me on highwaay bumps. I am putting a set of the Michelin runflats on that car too very soon. I do agree with posts about going with non-runflats as I get chance to drive a coupe with them and the ride is so quiet - if I didn't do so many road trips I would definitely go with non-runflats
