I have a Z06 with the screens removed from the bumper where the Vararam's holes line up. If I install this intake would I be at risk for having things (leaves, plastic bags, etc) sucked into my TB/intake?
If you have your filter in place nothing is going to go through it to the TB. You are correct that leaves and other small animals could be sucked up into the air intake unless you do something like this.

Why wouldn't you just put the Z06 screens back in? I also have a Z and the Vararam. There are no issues using the factory screens.

Short story long?
Got hit by a dog.
Bumper needed replacing.
Dealership was on it's 5th week, and waiting on the screens to be shipped.
Dealership got the wrong screens.
I got fed up and just took the car back without the screens.
Picked the screens up from them a couple weeks later.
Tried to install and realized I'm either not flexible enough or my arms are too short.
Screens are in the garage now.
...question, does the bumper have to come off for the screens to be replaced?
How did you get them to stay in place? is there a DIY write up anywhere cause i would be really interested.
I made those from a piece of aluminum rain gutter screen that I bought at Home Depot for under $3.00. They stay in place because on the lower edge there is a 90 degree bend that tucks under the front facia lip, at the top they are held in place by snapping in behind the facia and in front of the intake and I bent one corner over at the outside edge of the intake to keep it from sliding sideways. All you need is a pair of tin (aviation) snips and a straight edge to bend the screen over. Took less than an hour from start to finish.
If you're ordering the ZO6 screens, be careful, they also have OEM screens that are $144 EACH! They also have a stainless steel brake duct screen that looks darker in the pict, so I went with the zinc chromate.
I got the side vent screens too, just so everything matches.
