I heard that you can remove the 4in midrange but keep the bose sub in the door. is that correct and how do you do that
It's actually 3.5" and you can replace them. The popular choice is the polk driver. I have the Infinity Kappa and I love the improvement. A lot of the guys call them "twiddlers" .
You can also replace the rear speakers too. Just measure the depth before choosing a driver. Ask me how I know....
How do you remove the bose 3.5 but leave the base module. Or are they both out and you just add the 3.5. Im just not ready to add a sub yet and the Bose base does a decent job. thanks
I don't know the depth, but I do know that the Boston S65 fits; I used the Boston 3.5 for the fronts as well. Both have a soft dome tweeter and an integrated crossover. They made a huge improvement with my new JVC head unit. I put some extra fiberfill damping material in the rear speaker compartments. Also make sure the speakers are hooked up correctly - the Bose speakers at the front (i'm not sure about the rears) have reverse polarity to most after market units. If you get the polarity wrong the speakers may be out of phase; sound waves may cancel each other and affect perceived loudness at some frequencies.
Just about any 3 1/2 will fit fine. It is not mounted to the 8" mid bass speaker. it is just above it. It is held on by its own 4 screws. Simple installation. I used the infinity reference 3 1/2 and got them on e-bay for $12 new and the highs were immediately imprived as the Bose has no highs (cone tweeter). The crossover that is connected to the 8" mid bass speaker will protect the tweeter from low frequencies so they wont blow. They share a common wire but that is all. 10 minute total installation
The rears are 5 1/4 in the rear of a vert with plenty of room depth wise...I used Infinity 5 1/4 and the sound improved 1000%.
The rears are 6 1/2 in a couple. Depth is rarely an issue either.
Easy 15 minute install as the rear panel just pops off on the vert after removing one plastic pin.... The rears in either case are not connected to any amplifier as they are powered strictly by the factory head unit so any speaker will work fine
sorry to hijack this thread, will a 4" actually fit? I know everyone says 3.5" fits. I actually found a brand new set of JBL 4" 2 way speakers in my basement that I bought for another car and no longer have the car and forgot I had the speakers. Thanks.
