Very nice Patches......very nice. Knowing how thorough you are in all the tasks you take on, I am sure you considered epoxy paint rather than Racedeck flooring. What was the deciding factor?
In both cases I have considered epoxy - but only the type applied by professionals. I have used the Home Depot stuff and it's temporary, at best. Eventually, you will be re-doing it.
The Racedeck is easy to install, can be easily repaired if damaged and can be transported to a new home when you move if you so desire. Cost is similar to professionally-applied epoxies. It's cool in summer and warmer than concrete in winter, cleans up easily and is easily on the feet and back. It does not allow growth of mold/mildew and is impervious to most chemicals as it's made of polypro. Plus, the number of colors available, tile sizes and finishes they offer and patterns you can make allows infinite possibilites in the look of the floor. It's resilient and durable. I would not use jackstands on it without plywood under the stands but that's about it.
I think the fact that I've outfitted two grages in the past 5 years speaks to my opinion of the product.
Is anyone using this type of flooring in a state that has snow in the winter time, like Illinois?
The vet is in the garage in the summer, is in storage in the winter, and then I park my DD truck in the garage during the winter.
I have a friend who lives near Chicago and he has a Racedeck floor in his garage, however chose the Free Flow tiles which have open grids that allows the snow to melt through the tiles and then run out the door. He then then hoses the tiles/floor every spring to get rid of all the sand, dirt, etc. The Free Flow is also good if you have a floor drain.
Since I live in Florida, I am planning to purchase the diamond tiles similar to Patches.
You want to know how RaceDeck handles snow? The garage picture was taken 4 months after the snow picture. My van spends every night in the garage and the RaceDeck handles it fine. I work on that floor (No welding though) and it always cleans up just fine. I have more problems than snow. I really do live on a dirt road, two miles from the nearest pavement, so I collect a lot of undesirable stuff on my tires. Simple Green, scrub brush on a stick and two hours later the garage looks new again. I am a big fan of RaceDeck.
