Default DRL 60 SMD LED bulb physically burned

New 60 SMD 4157 equivalent in one of my DRL/turn signals physically burned up and almost couldn't get it out of the socket. Are these led replacements really worthwhile? What gives here.

Thats the first time I've seen an LED bulb with that type of damage

Have you checked your lamp unit to make sure its not burned or split? Looks like water may be getting to the bulb socket.

It's hard to say 100% what happened.

There are a lot of bad quality LEDS being sold. Here at JWM we offer sets that have been great during the 3 years we've been selling them.

These 60 smd bulbs (vs. 38 smd) are nearly as bright as a 4157. Any chance you could check with your supplier and find out if RELIABLE 60 smd plain amber bulbs could be made available to you? They fit the housing fine, just have more leds packed on the boards.

Did you install new housings when you installed the LEDs? I will guess that you put the LEDs in your old housings that were already melted and leaking due to the heat from your old incandescent bulbs and the damage has been caused by water intrusion, Buy some new housings, change the bulb sockets and get new LEDs.

Yes, the housings are new. Looking through the clear plastic of a good 60 smd bulb you can see a couple of dropping resistors and I believe at least one silicon diode. Resistors general don't short out but diodes sure do.

That is unusual. I had repeat problems with LED bulbs purchased from an outfit called "Autolumination" who are a PITA to deal with. Since then I bought LED switchbacks from JWM Motoring and have had zero problems with them.

I'll order some 60 led 3157s up soon and test them. They would be the same as our 60 led switchbacks which have been very reliable.
