Default Moving to Florida

Hi fellas. I have just recieved orders for my first time and my family and i will be PCSed to Hurlburt Field. I have been to the beach once with my ZO6 and since i new it was for a short while, didnt bother to ask questions about car care. My question is there any particular undercarrige care i need to be aware of since i will be so close to the ocean? I know the cars/trucks up north can have MAJOR problems from salt. I dont know how that plays being close to the pond.

Congrats on getting orders to Florida - nice place to live and own a Corvette. Don't think you really need to do anything special to the car other than just be sure to keep it clean.

Just wash it frequently. If you are directly beachside, hopefully you will have a garage. Otherwise just about everything gets coated with sea spray.

Rinse out the wheels wells good when you are washing it and you can spray the underside usually is enough to keep it clean. Watch for corrosion on metal parts and if you get some deal with it immediately. Such as nicked metal part, touch up with spray paint like the bars up front. Those get scraped from time to time, so you can touch them up to keep them from rusting.

All your tools, keep them wiped down. A dampened rag with WD 40 helps. Keep them in a good quality tool box with liners to keep exposure to a minimum.

Keep the weather striping serviced with dielectric grease to keep it in good condition.

Keep tires with good tread on the vehicle as you will be exposed to rain.

Welcome, enjoy our weather and state.

Let's see suntan oil smudged on the side from girls in bikinis leaning in,top always down so keep the dash and leather treated,if black interior get seat covers, lots of quarters for the vacuum, get a better stereo because it will be turned up all the time and some cool sunglasses.Down here it's always a great day to take the 'Vette!

Both light lens and darks lens sunglasses. Light lens are great for rainy or overcast days.

You will love it here. Florida is definitely a Corvette state!

My first big surprise was how much my bottom breathing C5 sucks up the sand off the pavement when driving near the beach. It gets everywhere within the engine bay so it's nice to own an air pressure unit to blow it out.

Make sure to keep your vinyl, leather and weather stripping lubed up and protected.

Oh, and buy a bra or some other type of front cover for Love Bug season.

...or do what I do and just keep it parked in the garage for those 2-3 weeks. I usually perform my spring detail at that time.

Florida is awesome! Wasn't born here but have lived here since I was 1.

Sea spray is not a worry but "love bugs" are. Twice a year (May and September) they are a car lover's plague. Other than that, no fear here. And there is no "storing" a Florida Vette unless its a Garage Queen.

Enjoy your move!!!

I miss my home state!

You will enjoy it, huge car and corvette scene down there. Great times to be had. Most have covered what I would have said, but I am not one to drive mine on the beaches.

Enjoy!

i have been tdy to herby many times took my vette once(since we are right up the road in georgia). its a nice place, nice beaches and warm sunshine, in the winter look for it to be in the high 30's low 40's. make sure you go to a water side bar/cafe called "helen back". the mall in destin is the place to be on a saturday, we always go hang out at bass pro shop when we are there, just watch for idiot drivers.

congrats on the orders! just got mine to hawaii!!

Cool, home of the C130 gun ships and Air Force Special Ops.
Be careful on the roads when they get wet.....slippery. Leave the Corvette home during spring break.
Thank you for your service.
