My '01 uses oil. About 1 qt every 1500 miles. I've even had the dipstick pop out after a spirited run.

Step one: get a CLB
Step two: get a catch can

I have an 01 I bought in 01 and have 110000 on the clock no major issues. As mentioned above drivers are part of the oil consumption issue as well as some of the valley seals. The biggest one to date is the window seals. Check for water leaks these can be costly to repair but are fixable.

had 2 friends with 01's, both used oil and smoked under HARD accel. one sold his the other re-ringed his and no more problems. the Valve springs are much easier to replace then rings. i would not buy a 01 for a few reasons that being one... 405hp being the second and HUD being another.. Love my hud. 04's got different shocks. all of which contributed to my decission of getting a '04 Z16

I bought an 01 last Jun with 113K on the clock. Now I have 119K and 75% of those miles have been on the track (road courses). No issues whatsoever.

so ztheusa how do you explain the ls6 sitting in my garage with cylinder walls with grooves you can see let alone feel with a finger nail. i am not trying to talk bad about anything gm does as i have always loved vets.
from 01 to 05 i worked in a chevy dealer service department and i had to verify oil consuption on more than one car. the motor i have used oil at 1qt in less than 900 miles
that is not ok no matter how you drive. and like someone already said its a vette built to haul the mail and then some
if i remember right when i was researching gm's service info on this oil prob it said something about piston rings not liking the cylinder walls and this motor had already had rings put in it. i also did talk with the owner and asked how he drove the car telling him
it did not matter as gmpp was going to fix it regardless and i was not going to have to tell anyone about his driving habitts it was just my curiosity. his reply was he did not drive the car that hard and was mostly his dd.

My 01 uses oil but not really an issue. Still a sweet car fast and fun to drive, most everyone changes out the shocks or cam anyways.
