So as I run down the road, I take a wicked right turn, no one around and plenty of room. I know I'm going in hard and expect some fishtailing. Well, the back gets away from me, I compensate, the back comes back around, I compensate some more, straighten out and proceed down the road and look at the display which reads "Warm Up Complete".....WTF?
That is normal, You must of just started up your car not long before you got the message.
Mr.Bill
That is true, but it was a restart after stopping at an ATM. I guess that doesn't make a difference? So how long after you start your car before you can count on AHS? It was about 100 yards after start to turn, so of course longer than that.

Mine will sometimes do it once a month, and other times it won't display the warning for a year. I think it has something to do with the engine temperature, and the position of your steering wheel. Mine did it yesterday when the engine was cold, but it hadn't come in over a year. Do a search and see what you get. It's been brought up many times here.
I start in the garage. Idle for a few seconds and then reverse for 50-100 yards. Only then do I turn the wheel. Normally I get the message before I go forward.
You got the end of the message, it should have started with " Traction control warming up " or maybe " Active handling warming up " first, then the " warm up complete".
Just in case you see that again. your traction control light should also have come on for a few seconds.
Someone just asked this exact same question last week, if you had done a search, No thread needed.

Interesting...I've never had that message on my '97...I guess it was designed in later on, but when I would like to know. What I do have is tranny fluid temperature, which I know was deleted soon after; I much rather have that data anyway.

Nope, my question was more of "Why didn't it kick in when my rear swung out?" Active Handling never engaged.
Because it was still in the calibration phase and was not yet active. That is wht the warm up complete message was saying.
Bingo.
The system calibrates itself every startup. The car must roll forward for a set distance durin gwhich self test cylces validate all the sensors are functioning correctly before engaging the system.
I used to get the message every day when i daily drove my car - used to often park in a downtown highrise parking lote than included many short straights and lots of turns to get down to street level.
Sometimes the system would be busy for 45 seconds or more until I came to a long enough straight section to finish calibrating.
