How many have this and what do you think? I like the scoop idea for fresh cold air but I am concerned about water on the roadway and heavy rains. I know they claim to have a piece in place to keep water out but wanted to get some first hand thoughts on the unit. I am slowly considering a cai and tune for a few more ponies.
Been running mine a year now and have seen heavy rains. No issues. Codes...fixed when I got the HALLTECH Honey Comb and installed it. Very happy with it and the car is a lot different when I floor it at highway speeds.
I have it, but never drive it in the rain. It will throw lean codes.
This generally only occurs on the '04 Z, since it had a leaner tune from the factory. Otherwise it should be fine. And yes, the MAF screen from Halltech should help if you do have an '04.
This is the only intake that works in my opinion. I've had more than one, and the VR works! The build quality on the new one is also light years ahead of the one I put on my previous '04 Z about 8 years ago. Kudo's Vararam!

i will disagree with you on that one..as 01-04 cars did not have the screen and i know several owners that have installed aftermarket intakes on the c5z's which have all thrown the lean codes..including my self...

The codes happened on my '03, until I got the honeycomb from HALLTECH.
I'd recommend the Hurricane intake off westcoastvettes. It has a much larger filter element than the vararam and still functions as a true ram air cold air intake. Instead of using the front bumper inlets as the air stream (which by the way helps ventilate the engine bay) it uses the same air stream as the radiator under the bumper. It has almost zero chance of ingesting water and is also cheaper in cost.

My 01 has a screen from the factory--WOW- its 1 of a kind
I had a Haltech on mine but will be going with the Varram system as soon as I can.
I had a Haltech on my 03 Z06 and it threw a code as well. Looks like when I get a varram i'll also have to buy the honeycomb piece from Haltech as well.

i had the K&N 63 series intake on my vette before going to the varram setup..but while on the k&N i was getting the lean codes...ordered the screen incert..and not ONE issues at all...car runs great..and btw i love my varram..

well when i installed my varram intake..i also took the time to clean out my rad. and let me tell you ..that in its self was a huge improvment in how my car cools its self...i have yet to notice lack of air flow from having the varram setup..

Disagree all you want. I'm just basing my opinion on 7 years of feedback I've seen on the forum. You will ocassionally see codes on non-'04 cars with a VR, but more often on the '04s with the leaner tune.
Regarding the screen, the '01s DID have a screen. They were removed in '02.

Thats true. The 01 ZO6s MAF did have a screen. 02-04 models did not. I took the screen out of mine modifying the Z just to have to put one back because of surging issues, the 02-04 models without a screen , some owners who modified their cars (Haltech, Vararam, Honker, etc.) who installed CAIs eventually installed screens in their MAFs to stop the surging and codes, unless they benefitted from eliminating the problem through a tuner.
