Hi Guys.....Just a word of caution about floor jacks. Decided to use the leaf blow to clean out the garage floor. I moved the floor jack & jack stands & noticed a spider web around it. Turned the floor jack over & this was inside it. Good thing is I never pick my floor jack up but I have been close to it under the car. Normally, I put my cribs under the wheels & pull the jack out but I have left it under the car if it wasn't in the way. Might check your jack next time, just in case.
I didn't know you guys have them over there. We didn't have them in NY where I'm from but they are everywhere here in SoCal. That's a big one you have there though. I usually see them about half that size. Nice find though.
Found one of those buggers in my bbq grille last year. She fell down into the flames before I could smash her with my spatula. I was surprised. I've not seen one around my house ever.
We used to have a couple nests at the state park I worked at when I was younger but we knew where to expect them so it wasn't too big a deal.
Good thing you found her first and gave her the old
OH...You had them, you just never saw one. Trust me they are there, just not as many. They have been found as far north as Eastern Canada and New England States.

Yea, I'm glad also. Actually, wasn't looking for something like that. I only use the jack for my vette & haven't used it for some time, so guess she thought she had found a home. Only thing that worries me is, where's the rest of the family. With her legs out, she was about the size of a quarter....Can handle snakes, but not spiders....creepy crawlers.
Heck, I've found Black Widow webs under my car...sitting six feet in the air on the lift during winter hibernation. The worst is when you find the egg sack and hundreds of the little devils coming out.
Black Widows, centipedes and scorpions all get my boot. Tarantulas I can live with. They're higher on the food chain and will eat everything smaller.

Oh thanks......now you've done it. I really needed that, LOL
I have killed four around my house this year, I can tell you from experiance that spider bites suck. Last year I was bit by a brown recluse in Virginia, it's a good thing you saw it before it tagged you
That's eerie. I also ran into a Black widow spider and nest this past weekend. It was nesting inside one of my rain gutter downspouts that I was attempting to shorten. Luckily it wasn't as aggressive as some other spiders I've run across.
Now every time I get under the vette, I'll be looking for creepy crawlers all the time, thanks to hotwheels57
Brown recluse......now that's a mean spider.
I HATE SPIDERS!
My wife & I moved our boat from the FL Panhandle to South FL a couple of years ago. Went to the marina, hauled the boat out, got the trailer out of storage. I was going over the trailer rigging when my wife screamed at me to get off. The fricking thing was covered with literally thousands of black widows.

I kill them all the time! BW webs are VERY distinctive. Their webbs are random pattern and the threads are thick compared to many other spiders. Their webs are for capture like most predator spiders but they aim for larger prey like crickets, etc. Looks for leaves and debris hung up in webbs. Also their egg sacks are brown paper bag colored about the size of a small marble. These sacks are usually found in pairs within a few inches so the Widow can watch them. Spray or smash the spider but remove and dispose of the egg sacks, if you can, far from the site they are found. A smashed egg sack leaves a scent that invites an new male Widow,,,,and then soon a new female! Widows are VERY teritorial but can be found living within six feet of one another in a rich food environment!
I am in the landscaping business,,,they are a constant threat! Give me snakes anytime!
About once a week, I walk around our property and kill two to three. Raid ant spray works great. They like to set up webs around trailer, tractor and car wheels, also trees, under any place dark like a can or lid of some type. Each egg sack contains 100 to 900 baby spiders. That is why it is almost impossible to eliminate them.
