If you have a musty smell, do a search on products to eliminate unwanted odors in the HVAC system. But, here is some info that was posted on the forum:GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator, GM part number 12378554, US A/C Delco 88900909, Canadian part number 88901678, may control or eliminate odors in the interior and luggage compartment areas of GM vehicles. This non-toxic, biodegradable, odorless product has been shown to greatly reduce or remove the following types of odor:
• Objectionable smells of mold and mildew resulting from vehicle water leaks
• Customer created odors, such as smoke
You may safely use GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator on fabrics, vinyl, leather, carpet, and sound deadening materials. You may also induce this product into HVAC modules and instrument panel ducts for the control of non-bacterial related odors.
Important: This product leaves no residual scent and should not be used as an air freshener.
This product may result in the permanent elimination of an odor and may be preferable to customers whose allergies make them sensitive to perfumes. This product may effectively remove odors when directly contacting the odor source. In cases such as water leaks, use this product with diagnostic procedures to first eliminate the primary cause of the odor. Then use further applications on the residual odor to permanently correct the vehicle condition.
How to use this product:
Spray GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator directly or as an additive with carpet shampoo in steam cleaners. Do not use on any interior surface that plain water would deteriorate, because this product will have the same effect. Also avoid letting this product come into contact with vinegar or any acidic substance. Acid-based products will hamper the effectiveness of GM Vehicle Care Odor Eliminator.

(Question): I was having a conversation with a pro car detailer this evening and he said that it in the event of a car interior with strong musty odor, from storage or whatever, cleaning carpets and upholstery usually isn't enough.
He insisted the best way to handle it is the use of an ozone generator, which cleans the air and destroys mold and mildew in the carpet, and under the dash and ducts where you can't reach. It sounded like a lot of smoke and mirrors, but I found a lot of people talking the machines up online in a search. The detailer says he commonly uses one in older car trade-ins with musty, stinky, animal smell or smoke smelly cars.
Anyone have any experience with this?
(Answer): He is correct. I am also a detailer and when a car comes in the shop in that condition, we will shampoo the mats, and carpeting with a commercial shampoo and add a product that kills mildew bacteria. It gets run though an extractor, which injects the shampoo and hot water into the carpet, then vacuums it out. That includes getting under the seats as deep as possible.
Then we pop the hood, start the HVAC Fan on low and spray Ozium (kills airborne bacteria) into the vents from the outside until we smell it inside, spray one more time and shut the fan off so the products sits in the vents.
Then we tackle the seats using steam on leather/vinyl and the extractor on the cloth.
Dry the whole mess with a dryer. Once dry, we fire up the ozone generator and let it run for several hours. I generally ask to keep the car overnight so the ozone air really gets into everything and penetrates the fabric.
Then we let the car air out for 20-30 minutes before we release it.
I have yet to have a car go out the door with the aroma even slightly present, and have never had a return.
You still need to get rid of as much of the source as possible via old fashion scrubbing, otherwise it will eventually come back IF you did not let the ozone generator run long enough.
after your a/c has cooled your car run it on the recirculation mode for a bit before reaching your desto and shutting off car.
This has helped me and my mold problem is now under control since it doesn't have a chance to settle, there are products that can cover up the smell and the smell comes back but, this is a preventative measure and I practice this method in our mini-van and it works....hope that helps
oh here's that thread on smelly A/Chttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...smelly-ac.html
