Im thinking about picking up some new rims in 18/19. but the prices for tires is CRAZY.
So I've been looking on ebay.
With that said,
I dont track my car. I dont even drive stupid (i get on it now and again)
So far I think I have filled the tank up 3 times this year. Thats how little I drive it. I also dont drive it in rain.
SO is it a HORRIBLE Idea to have 2 different sets for the front vs. the rear? What about patched tires?
No, it's not horrible for you. I have Runflats on the back and Hankooks on the front. I love it, but I'm not a track racer or 1/4 miler either. It will drive fine IMHO.

Now this is just my opinion, I feel that all tires should match, I feel that if I was to put 2 different type of tires it takes away from the handling and to me it does an injustice to the car, Now this is just me and my opinion.
Patched tires will run fine, But you have lost the speed rating.

I got same set up. Works fine. I just had too much good tread on the rears to change out. RF's seem to wear pretty quick. Then I'll put Hankooks on rear.

Mismatching the tires isn't a big deal, the only thing I can say is that depending on the tread rating tire wear may not be the same, but again it's not an issue.
I personaly wouldnt mix em, but I dont think its going to present any hazard for normal daily driving. As long as each set are good (perform well as in not cheap tires) and if one set (front or rear) performs better you remain aware of it.
I ran mismatched tires for a while when the fronts wore out faster than the rear and I replaced the fronts with a different tire.
Now as far as the patch, I wouldn't feel comfortable pushing the car with a patched tire.
Well I just replaced my stock Goodyear EMT's and wagon wheels with chrome Z06 wheels and
1 continetal 255z17
1 sumitomo 255z17
1 toyo 295z18
1 michelin pilot 295z18
all tires are nearly new...3 were already mounted on the wheels...the car feels like it rides smoother and quiter with better traction but its now pulling to the right some. I might just put the wheels on the EMT's and pay the $130 to get them mounted and balanced soon.
I have approx 590rwhp....for me its all about contact patch and traction in the rear, so I run a Road Race tire out back, and a regular street tire up front. The car still handles nicely, and I have the traction I need
There certainly isnt anything wrong with mismatching the tires as long as they are properly speed rated for the car, so patched tires would be out of the question. I personally would only put a matched set on the car simply for aesthetics and no other reason. It would bother me if they didn't match, but thats just me.
