Im wanting to lower my 98 c5 from 4x4 to low like it should be, problem is, do i use stock bolts? do i buy a kit? if so which vendor has the best one? i have spent hours on here today reading and hell all i get is everybody loves their own way of lowering the car! i dont want it slammed i just want to close up that god awful fender gap as nicely as possible.. thanks guys
It can be done quite well on the "stock bolts". There are many variations of this, most who do not want the slammed look leave the bushings on the front bolts and tighten them all the way to the leaf spring so that the leaf spring sits closer to the lower A.
The nut on the rear bolts gets "loosened" so that the nut is at the top of the bolt.
Lowering like this just requires an alignment and will result in a firm but nice ride (in my opinion).
Now, some will say go with coil overs, that is an option if you want to spend some $$$.
The other option for the "slammed" look is to cut the front bushing and put the bolt back in and to buy longer bolts for the rear so you can move the nut up even more.
Here is the result of that look. Been accused of "whoring" my pics so may as well continue the trend.
I like my ride, go with high quality tires and it's not too bad. The shocks do not "bottom out" as some have said could happen. If they did are start doing it I will upgrade to the Bilstiens.

I lowered mine on the stock bolts, It is low enough for me. I would try lowering it on stock bolts all the way in front and almost the same in the rear, Then after driving it for a week and you want it lower get C6 front bolts and longer bolts for the rear.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try stock bolts first and see where it gets me, I kind of want to do the 19/18 setup bc I have the stock 18/17 z wheels now. Love the car by the way unique
There are several topics on lowering. Use the "search" button and type in
"lowering a C5" You'll be amazed on the amount of threads pertaining to the topic

Thanks.
You may want to consider a +2 19/20 setup, or maybe even a 20/20 like me.
PM me if you want some details on what to consider when exploring up-sizing your wheels. I did about 10 hours of research before going with the 20's all the way around.
Unique how do you take the front bolt out? I can see the top of the bolt but the bottom is In the a arm
I'm writing this from memory so you may find more info from doing an advanced search function here in C5.
1) Car on jack stands.
2) Now you are ready to disassemble the suspension.
3) Place your jack under the lower A to relieve stress on the system; there are two bolts under the shocks, remove those.
4) Remove the Sway bar bolt.
5) Remove that main bolt of the lower A.
6) After this the whole suspension will lower gently with your jack.
7) Position a pad on the end of the floor jack and put under the end part of traverse leaf spring. Your pad should be extended enough to fit right up in the lower A section. Jack it up enough to remove the tension of the leaf spring from the lower A so you can pull the bolt out. Pull out the bolt (this I remember, it's 10mm), cut the bushing off the bolt, and screw it back in all the way tight.
